hey guys- what kinds of mufflers are you running out there?
next spring im looking for a new cat back system- the y-pipes almost wasted, and the muffler is sprouting rust holes. time to replace!

i was thinking id like to go with flowmaster delta 40's, (love that sound!) but im curious what everyone else has out there and what you think/what it cost ya. i dont think they will hook up directly to the stock y pipe without mods.

is dynomax any good or is it cheaply made? the pricing seems too cheap to be of quality.

Flowmasters are over pricedin my opinion. Just put 2 dynomax on my 67 dodge coronet with a 400hp 340 & I think they're just as good at half the price & they sound great. Not to many people crawl under your car & look at your muffler...having to pipes done properly is very important. Cost is around $400 to 450 to have a custom bent  2 1/2" dual exhaust installed & welded around here.

Check out this link, http://www.classicchambered.com,. I put these on my 75 Vette and I couldn't be more pleased. I did mine from the manifolds back. Mine are true duals and I no longer have those bulky old mufflers visible at the tail of the car. The chambered system sounds great, a good throaty roar.

Vette(s): had a really nice one. sold it to a good friend. Purchased 2004 custom coupe in Feb. 2009 did not tell anyone here until August 2009. BAD I KNOW.
the year is wrong but i put the chambered exhaust from mid america under the LT-1 and let me tell you the sound is awesome, hell i have even been known to set off a few parked car alarms.....

Also check out Allen Stainless Exhaust.  They will custom bend a system for your car.  They made my 2 1/2 dual pipes to fit my 75 automatic.   My pipes are not stainless, but you can get them.  I also have Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers.  Very nice combination.  The Aero Chambers are loud, but it's still easy to talk inside the car while cruising.  At idle they rumble and sound good, but you can talk at the rear bumper with no problem.  Nail it and conversation stops.  At wide open they rip the ears off of the driver behind me, as my sister will testify.  Actually scared her a bit.

now im really having a hard time- i was just planning to replace the rear y pipe and a decent set of mufflers, but all of your suggestions make a good argument. those chambered exhaust systems look sweet!

i just got my "QQ" plates, so im sure its not a problem going to dual exhaust and ditching the cat, however, i wasnt looking to depart from stock all that much, say maybe a good quality y pipe and a good muffler.

keep in mind, im not looking for "redneck" loud, but something like a good muscle car sound.

The 24-30 inch chambered "sticks" are not obnoxiously loud. They have what I call an "old school" muscle car roar. You can still use them downstream of the converters if you wish. I don't think anyone would be disappointed after hearing these pipes on their car.

I`m going with the hooker side pipes. But The chambered exhast would be my second choice.

Just one  more note. Captn Bill has a dual chambered system.  Each pipe has a chamber under the car, and then again where the original muffler were mounted.  Total of four with dual exhaust.  It not too loud, and sounds really nice.
