Hi guys,
I recently found out that the carb for my 68 was incorrect in that it was intended for a 69' with auto.  It needs to be rebuilt and I would rather not have the wrong part rebuilt.  Anyway, the NCRS manual says the correct carb should be Chev #7028207 but the people at Pony Carburetors says that is for a 327/350HP motor and is very rare and costly and my vette should take #7028213.  Does anybody out there know which one is correct?

The Black Book says 7028219 is for a 350 HP, and 7028207 is for a 300HP with manual trans.  I found the same info in another source, so that's three sources agreeing with you.  The 7028213 is apparently for passenger cars with up to 295 HP.

I have 7029207 for my 69 350-300hp manual trans.

Is that correct?

Scott,

The guys @ Pony are wrong.  You will definitely need the 7028207 Q-Jet.  Larry is right about the 327/350, it used the 7028219 carb.  The "212" & "213" Q-Jets are not Vette carbs.

The good news is that in '68, the date code was stamped on the base plate, and you can swap a correctly dated base plate with the correct "207" carb and "build" the correct carb.  After 1968 the julian date code was stamped on the carb body under the carb's numbers.

As always, the 6-month prior to build date applies on the date code.  The date code for the carb relates to the build date of the car, not the engine.  The carb was mated to the engine in St. Louis, not Flint.

The bad news, is that these carbs are hard to find & expensive when found (unless you get lucky).  It took me 2 years to find mine.  I then bought a couple of "212" carbs on E-Bay for $50 to get the correct date code.

When was yor car built?  I have 3 "212/213" Q-jets with dates of 0198, 0438 & 1488.

You can click here for a good start on the part numbers on your car:  http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/c3/1968/68id.html

Shoot me an E-Mail & I'll send you some good carb sources and some pics of the carb if you need any help.

P.S..............Ken the 7029207 carb is correct for the '69 350/300 with a manual trans.  Your date code should be stamped on the carb body just under the numbers.  The 7029207 carb was also as a service carb and there are a lot of them out there.  Check your date to be sure it was made before the buid date of the car.

Good luck,
Anthony

Anthony,
I just received my Carb from Pony Carbs and something is not right and I was hoping you could help me with some info.

First I received the carb and it had the wrong date code but the right 7028207 part number.  This is their second attempt to get me the right date for a Feb 68 vette.  The carb has a vacuum nipple on the back (firewall side) up high.  My old carb did not have this and I'm not sure what if anything connects to it.

Second, on the left side there is a 2 inch vacuum pipe sticking out.  On my old carb this had a rubber cap on it.  Does yours have the cap or is it hooked to something.

Third,  I can't get it to idle any slower than 1100 RPM's.  Fast idle was 2000 RPM's and I've adjusted it to 1500 RPM's.

I will be calling Pony on Monday but you will probably know more about this specific carb since you have a 68 yourself.

Thanks for your help.
Scott
