O.K. Guys, new engine is fianlly going in Tuesday, now I need to think about exhaust. I'm going with the stock manifolds for the original look, I need something from the manifolds back, any recommendations? Looking for a little performance to go with the Crane H272 cam. Does anyone make a mandrel bent system?
Thanks as always,
Matt

I would go with the 2 1/2" chambered system or flowmaster 40's. Complete sets ready to install make it pretty easy to do.

Definitely go with 2 1/2 inch pipes. Mufflers are up to you depending on the sound you like. I installed dynomax super turbo mufflers and Dynomax claims they flow more than others. I like the deep sound and they are quiet unless your foot is in the carb.

I put on the chambered under the car system from mid america, and let me just say that the sound is awesome, got that it's a vette rumble. at a show in oregon last july 85 vette most c4 & c5 couple old croonies from the sponoring club comment that my 70 lt-1 was the best sounding vette there, made me feel pretty good considering there were a few 65, 66 with side pipes.
just my 2 cents worth. Larry

dynomax super turbos. ew. so when I first bought my C3 and knew next to nothing about cars in general, let alone corvettes, I had it taken to a shop because the mufflers were rusting off, and the mechanics didn't provide me with advice or choices...they ordered dynomax superturbos and slapped em on there. I could not stand my mufflers. they were so quiet, they didn't communicate any sense of "muscle car". it even sounded whiney when my engine got up into the higher RPMs. and the look...they were big and ovular like huge, misshapen eggs, with the pipes angles toward the ground...I hated them. I wanted very much to just KICK them off my car. I paid roughly 180-200 dollars for the purchase, shipping, installation of the dynomax superturbos. when it got to the point where I absolutely could not stand them anymore, where I was REPULSED by the sound of my car, took it down, had them cut off, and straightpiped it (temporary until I get the hooker sidepipe system, or possibly another LOUD performance sidepipe system). I paid 80 bucks for the straightpiping. when I turned the key for the first time and the engine started, and I heard straightpipes on a corvette for the first time in my life...I swear I squealed like a 7 year old girl whose daddy just bought her a pony. my friend, who drives a straightpiped 79 mustang, that had convinced ME to straightpipe the vette...he was already USED to straightpipes, and his jaw dropped, and hung there. if you want a cheap exhaust that will sound beautiful, while you're making your decision on a full performance system....straightpipe it, and maybe throw some quad tips on. you won't be disappointed, even if it is only a temporary solution.

I will be installing a new engine early next year and was considering side exhaust. Has anyone seen a 1978 with side exhaust or know where I could see a picture of one with side exhaust? I am considering this option not only for the sound but to remove some heat from under the car. If I can get double ceramic coating will this reduce the heat and how hard is it to clean around the side pipes?
