I got the exhaust setup from Corvette Central (a C3VR sponsor by the way) and it was Part#323737 with a cost of $284.80 plus shipping.
I had mine installed by a local muffler shop because I didn't have a lift and didn't think I had enough room to do it. I'm glad I did, the kit went on pretty good, except he did have to re-bend one tube slightly to get it to line up. I like the aluminized system because it won't rust like steel.
Try this link. By the way, the price is the same as when I bought mine 3 years ago!!

I got a decent set up from pypes, dual x pipe with the mufflers included. Had to make the down pipes but it went on fairly easy. 79rebuild 2008-05-21 17:58:03

Well I am running Hooker ceramic coated headers, aluminized 2-1/2" pipes and Flowmaster 40 series mufflers. Sounds great around town but gets a little loud on the freeway. The engine is spinning 3500 rpm on the freeway so if I go to a 5 speed the noise level should be better. I do like them though for the most part. I bought 2-1/2" sweet thunder chambered mufflers but did not install them. With the vette being a little lower than stock I would have had ground clearance issues.
I believe that C3`s should be heard! I consider them Hot Rods, Particularly the way most here like to juice them up a bit.
quiet is reserved for C5/C6. Picking a sound is tough, especially when you can`t always hear what the final sound will be `till after you installed. i went through 2 sets of mufflers for my sidepipes before i settled on the ones i have. that can get expensive. try to sample if you can before you buy. good luck and enjoy the ride!
I recently had Magnaflow Performance mufflers put on my '76 L-48. The car has headers and together I feel it has a nice soft rumble. These mufflers run about $100 to $150 each installed. They sound great!

and I thought I spent some cash on the MAM stainless polished set.

I think if you spend $50 per muffler, you will be replacing them in a couple of years due to rust.
If you get alum or stainless, they will last a lot longer.
