New Carb for my LT-1

I've had it with this old original Holley.  Have been trying to stop a fuel leak and stripped the rear fuel inlet fitting.  I think I want to put this date coded carb in a box to stay with the car for the next owner, and buy a Holley Street Avenger to replace it.
Original carb is 780 cfm.  Street Avengers come in 670 and 770 cfm.  I'm thinking about going down to a 670 as I don't race this car and don't go above 5,000 rpm hardly ever.  In fact more like 4,500.

Talked to a Holley tech guy and he agreed and said I'd probably get better gas mileage to boot (not that I care).

I would go to an electric choke and block off the exhaust crossover to remove the heat under the carb (I've already removed the butterfly from the heat riser.

What do you guys think?

I setup a street avenger 670 carb on my 72 when I built the motor 10 years ago. They come a little lean and sloppy built but with some jetting and adjustment it runs good. Not as good as an original tuned Q-Jet but not bad. My car ins not an LT1, just a warmed up base 350.

Vette(s): 1972 conv, 4-speed, 350, 200hp, numbers match, rally wheels, war bonnett yellow w/white top. good condition, nice driver.
I also have a warmed up 350 in a 72' A holley never worked well for me. Doesn't mean they are not a good unit. I have a professionally rebushed and rebuilt Q-jet. Works VERY well in my opinion. Give one a try. It'll mean a intake change, but may be a good alternative.

Just an update, I finally bought a Street Avenger 670 w/electric choke from Holley.  Just put it on and my car runs like a top! Approve No more hesitation accelerating from a stop and my garage doesn't smell as bad with it running. Wacko

Old date coded carb is now in the box to go to the eventual new caretaker of this car.

I'm a happy camper...until something else breaks.  Shocked
