Topic: New exhaust system woes
in Forum: C3 Fuel, Emission Control, and Exhaust Systems
I received a new 2 1/2" stainless exhaust system from one of the big vendors on Friday. I spent 5 hours trying to put it on yesterday! It fits like Stevie Wonder got drunk and decided to bend some pipe. There was no left or right marked, I tried comparing old to new with no avail, then I just had to do trial and error. The left side fits, but hangs down to low, the right side doesn't fit worth a darn. I have over $500 tied up in this system, you'd think for that kind of money quality would be a little better. I'm going to take it to Midas today to see if they can "adjust" it. Then I'm going to have a little talk with the vendor. Anyone had similar problems?

Matt-
Yes, I also bought an dual exhaust system (chambered). I had to monkey with it and buy a couple adapters. I plan on either buying a mig welder or let Tuffys weld it permanent. It still needs two more hangers and the passenger side needs moved over an inch to access the transmission. I am hearing some ticking noises and I hope it is just the pipes hitting. Everytime I do an exhaust I say it will be the last, had no choice this time, I took the cat. out, now they will work with is there. I paid $275 I think for the exhaust. Tuffy's quoted me $225 to make a new pipe to give access to the transmission better, change the two rear pipes so I can use the exhaust tips I am going to order. Let me know what Midas quotes you please.
I priced welders $150 to $350 I could get a good one.
I got the car done yesterday, Midas charged $87 to put the system on which is a bargain! I spent 4 hours fighting with the system. I went with DynoMax mufflers, it looks and sounds great.
