I think I have just discovered that my stock 71 LT1 is supposed to have a 1/4 inch spacer between the Holley and the intake manifold.  Mine has a thin gasket but no spacer that I can see.  What does a spacer do and should I reinstall one on my car or leave it?

Thanks

Neil

The "spacer" is actually called an "insulator", and it's purpose is to keep the carb from getting too hot, and boiling the fuel. They do help, but the ones I've seen over the years also have a tendency to create vaccuum leaks there.
If you can locate a new one, go ahead & use it. Some of the aftermarket people have them in diff. thicknesses, so check around for one that will not create a clearance problem with the hood. 1/4 inch is the correct size.

Dr. rebuild has em, they came on 70 LT-1 cars that were distined for Calif according to the catalog, they extend to the front of the float bowls to help prevent fuel boil, they are a tin+gasket combo,I had fuel boil problems and I bought the holley type which is a 1/4" fiber gasket type that extend to the front of the bowls, no more fuel boil, they are the four hole type, I cut the holes out
