Following on from last post, have been looking for a rebuild kit for my Q jet ( 7045222)
Came across this one and wondered if it was a good price...
http://carbs.partschoice.com/kits/CK142.htm
Also I see they do complete superkits....Have asked for more info on one for my carb.
Any of you got any other ideas or sources?
TIA.

Most kits for the Q-Jet go for about $30-$35. The float is about $30 also and in my opinion should always be changed when rebuilding the carb. They may look good but thay can still sink and cause starvation under acceleration.
Also, be sure to epoxy the main wells to prevent bleeding; the leaking of gas into the manifold when not running.
I don't know how much you are looking to spend, but most shops will rebuild it for $150-$200 depending on the amount of parts needed over here. The costs can run over $300 for a "show" restoration w/ the correct plating.
I'm not sure what the costs would be on your side of the"pond."
Like Ron 78 said, track down KSTYR's post about rebuilding the Q-Jet. He guides you through it step by step.
Good luck,
Anthony
The Superkit for my carb is $79 and comes with everything I need including the float. Think I will order today!.
Have already bookmarked the rebuild page
Thanks.

Thanks.
I'd go with the Super kit,it should have a couple of different thick base gaskets that go between the manifold and the base of the carb, make sure you use the right one
anther note, when you set the float level double and triple check the setting, and get it right the first time,I had to take mine back apart and re-set it ,it was just a hair off,it makes a lot of difference

You can get a good kit and a float at AutoZone or NAPA. I have used both supplliers many times. It will be cheaper than what you are looking at.
Thanks for that offer of help. Truly appreciated.

To be honest I already have another guy who is going to source an Echlin kit and the correct float. Have been advised not to use the brass float by a couple of well known carb builders.
Will keep you updated on the process.
Thanks again for all the info. Good to know there are some great guys ( and gals ) out there.
