Lars is definitely biased towards the q-jet
he is right that a well functioning q-jet is a better carb, but they are hard to maintain and often a rebuilt unit is a POS
with your discovery of the vacuum line burnt you do have a choice
you can replace it and see how your engine runs and stay with a pain in the a$$ carb and a very pedestrian intake.
Or you move to simpler and less error prone carb that is plenty power enough for your baseline 350 on a better intake without the burden of emissions controls.
As for his claim of obsolete ( and he really is a sanctimonious blowhard) it is like saying windows xp is obsoloete... True.... But q-jet would be vista in that comparison

I refuted alot of the unsubstantiated BS over on CF. I am about to get flamed for doing so. Which is why it has been so long since I used CF that I had to make a new account as I forgot my pass and the email address used was one I abandoned years ago.

Lars is extremely knowledgeable about Q-jets, and is understandably biased towards them. A Q-jet is an outstanding carburetor when properly set up, adjusted and maintained! That's the secret and the headache of Q-jets today. There just aren't that many techs around that know them anymore...Holleys, Edelbrocks and Demons? Sure...lots of techs familiar with them as that's where todays carburetor market is...not Q-jets. Lars is one of those few guys that can make a Q-jet "sing".
There's also a shortage of quality Q-jet cores that can be rebuilt properly to get the most out of them. That's simply a fact or life and the good cores are in demand by Corvette restorers interested in the numbers and date codings.
I'm not going to trash the guys on CF...lots of good guys there, plus some guys that one would think are Porsches owners from their attitude. Just a fact of life. Lots of differing opinions and experiences...and not all are rooted in reality.
With the Edelbrock Performer intake and Edelbrock carburetor, I can't see how you'll be unhappy...quality stuff, easy to adjust and hold the adjustments, simple to deal with. You may well have to dial things in once installed, but you'll be happy with the results.
Nothing worth while comes easy...shedding a little blood and grief is par for the course.

I saw your post(s) on CF. You definitely heated things up. That happens over there if you refute their opinions.
It fired right up, high idled very nicely, kicked itself down nicely, curb idled nicely, and ran around the block a couple times really well! I can't believe what a difference once little hose can make! The next test will be actually taking it out on a drive somewhere for real, not just a run around the block.
Also, I have to see if I can fix that exhaust rattle we discovered in mystic. I have to take it for inspection soon, to the guy that installed the exhaust, so I'll see if they can find it and fix it.
Looks like I'm sending the Edelbrock parts back to Jegs. I guess I'll have to eat the shipping cost both ways. Oh well.
Thanks for all your help guys!

im glad it worked out for you...
hopefully that vacuum hose was the main source of your problem. a vac leak is a big deal.
shipping is better than paying for everything.
as for CF.. like I said.. if you disagree with lars or one of his many parrots you get flamed and that is why I dont go over there. If the point iof the c3 forum there is having one guy share his opinion and a hundred people regurgitate it then they have suceeeded.
Hey Adam,
It sounds like you may have nailed it. I'm hoping that a good, long ride will give you trouble free results.
Let us know how it goes.
P.S. My exhaust had a rattle that was caused by the flap on the passenger side exhaust manifold. I wired it open and the problem was easily solved.

nosal1 ! What is it you wanted to say?????

Sorry Guys,
I hit the wrong switch and it went off in my hands..It was a few comments on replacing my Q-Jet with Edelbrock carb.
I resorted to sending message directly to Adam and he may possibly send it to this forum.
In short I have substituted many Q-Jets to Edelbrocks with a great deal of success and increased the performance/operation of the engines, however the gas mileage differs quite a bit and should be considered as the Eddy's are not what you would call an asset as far as MPG as the Q-Jets...The small primaries of the Q-Jet help the mileage as long as you don't go into and stay in the secondaries, the go fast mode.....
Again, I apologize for my ineptness on the computer..
Have a great day all.............
