Any easy way to remove slip in mufflers from Hooker show tubes? I have been pounding them downward on a 2x4 and they wont budge. Don't want to damage ends, and not be able to slip over collector. Have been in tube for over 8 + / - yrs. I want to get them Jet Hot coated and need them out what a Pain they are. I think after this I will just leave them out.

You removed the bolt that holds them in, right? If you leave them out be prepared for some noise!!!!

Ha, Ha there is no bolt to hold them in....Thats why they are called slip in mufflers.......I will get them out as soon as I get time to work on them :)

I have Hookers with the glass packs and there is one bolt holding it in there. The only thing I can think of is to soak them with penetrating oil. Good luck with it.

Ace, I always keep and file any instruction sheets on stuff I do myself. As my memory gets worse and worser.... I go back and review them when I need to work on that project.

Good luck, after 8+ years they are probably rusted-carboned in there, you might have to settle to coat only the outside, if you get em out and coat both in-out sides the ID of the collector gets smaller and you might have a problem getting the mufflers back in, even worse if you do the primery pipes also the OD gets bigger and you might have a problem slipping the collector onto the pri. pipes, don't ya just love the car hobby, another question I would ask is the coating going to stick to the chrome without peeling later, you might think about slipping the collector and pri. pipes together and have them coated as a unit

Well, you just confirmed to me not to put mufflers in mine!
I did not plan on putting them in, now I know I won't.!
