Topic: Replacing my carb

Since my Vette still runs like crap when cold, after the shop had three attempts at fixing it (rebuilding the carb, etc), I am considering replacing my carb with a new one.
Does anyone know anything about this carb that Mid America sells:

This is just my experience, so take it for what it's worth. I've had several Holley's on different cars over the years. I have a Quadrajet rebuilt by a guy in Rockford, Illinois called The Quad Shop. I had mine rebuilt and restored, (everything replated and recolored). I think it cost me around $400. It runs just slightly rough when it's cold, but warms right up and idles nice. All the Holley's I've had were great for speed, but I wasn't real happy with the idle. I had a '66 Mustang with a 289, I bought a new Holley 650 for it, but ended up selling it and rebuilding an Autolite 4 barrel, wasn't as fast, but ran alot better. The guy from the quad shop might be able to help you and save you some dough, he specializes in Q jets. www.thequadshop.net

Adam, to me on a Chevy nothing works like a Q-Jet.Summit Racing has Q-Jets from Jet Performance Products for $359.95.I bought one a while back it worked fantastic right out of the box, just a couple minor turns of the screwdriver. Check them out.

I'm with Matt and Lynne...I like the Q-Jet. Has your car had the cam replaced? If so, maybe your carburetor needs re-jetting to match the different cam specs. That's the problem my '78 L82 had...the previous owner put in a bigger cam and never had the carb jetted to match. It was in a constant lean idle condition and ran like crap unless the rpm's were high. A professional rebuild and re-jetting cured the problem and it runs great.

My engine was replaced with a GM Crate 350ci 249hp. Had the carb rebuilt recently (about 2 years after the engine install).
