Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.
Anyone know where I can get a set for a decent price for my 79 350ci, PW, PL, Cruise, A/C, L-48? After extensive repairs to her this year (well over $2,000) I have noticed she has a cracked exhaust manifold on the right side of the engine and I want to get some idea how much they are going to run me so I can start saving.
Can anyone tell me whether I will do any permanent damage to the engine running her with a cracked manifold?
Appreciate the help,
Mark

Hey Mark ,, thats a hot looking vette ! Try E/bay search corvette exhaust ,you can find what you need there . You do not have to worry about the crack harming your engine ,cracks in the cast iron manifolds are quite common . As long as you do not have a large amount of exhaust gases leaking that could find their way into the car all is well.

Thanks for the help! I'll be searching both places...and more!

Just a follow-up question to this discussion:
Is there any advantage to using "shorty" headers, versus full-length headers made
for specific year 'vettes? Are there disadvantages as well?
Thanks in advance for any information!

Good question. I would also like to know the answer.
Reason I was going to go with shorty's is because I've been told they will fit in same space as the existing manifolds and did not want to have to have alterations done to the exhaust system I just had installed year and a half ago. Didn't know I had a crack in the manifold then, other wise I would have been buying the shorty's prior to getting the exhaust done.

I have always heard that the full length headers are the best for h.p. and torque. But, I think that dollar-wise, you are better off with the shorties.
I'm on the fense here! The shorties look like the are a better fit, But I thought that the collecter was one off the things that help develop the performace that we are after. Any full lenghts that fit with out beating them to death?
I just noticed how old this post was I hope that its still looked at!
