In many cars I've seen, they've had to leave the rocker mouldings off. What's the reason some do and some don't? From a distance you really can't tell, but up close it looks unfinished. There's gotta be a way to modify them to fit.

you dont really need to modify them to fit..
according to an article i read in corvette fever about the hooker pipes..
you need to take the mouldings off to install the pipes.. then you need to reinstall the mouldings after the pipes are on.. this apparently is a pain in the ass and therefore gets left undone.

I'd like to know how those JCW pipes look up to the headers.
Also the hooker pieces require notching the rocker panels to clear some of the pipes. When you do this it makes it easier to get them back into position.
I think some fell its blasphemy to cut up their panels so they just leave them off. Can't quite blame them for it costs to replace them. Now I have seen people install the Hooker pieces with panels left on, but it takes some patience and twice as long to do it this way because its very hard to get wrenches in on the mounting bolts for the side tubes.

Vette(s): 1976 Brown with Buckskin Interior. I bought her on 9/15/03 and just received it on OCT 1st 2003!! It needs interior work, and some things under the hood, but I am so excited! Just waiting for Summer of 2004 to totally show it off.
I willshow off those JC pipes as soon as they are installed!! I promise!! Besides, I will be taking pics during the install so that everyone can see how it was done!

This is true. I had to do it twice (original installation and re-installation after restoration).
You need them off to mount the pipes, and the PITA (Pain In The Ass) part of putting them back on is the front corner. It's a REALLY tight fit by the first pipe into the collector.

However, it looks really bad (IMHO) not to reinstall the panels.
As for the JC-Whitney version, I think it would be really difficult to match up headers to the fake pipes. Do they even go through into the collector?

Either way you go, I think pipes on the side really work well on C3's. Besides, until you've had a really good "shark bite", (either from yours or someone else's) you're not really innitiated...

Here is how the JC works, they have the 4 into one and then only one pipes goes under the car, from that you need to get another pipe made to go into the manifold from the pipe. No biggie if you know someone (I DO) he he, to take care of it for you. Eric you and I talked alot about sidepipes and I finally went this way to save some money and still get the look i wanted. Those pipes are still in the garage in the box. they were delivered here on 5/7 and my 30th b-day was 5/9!!!

My b-day present from my hubby was sidepipes and of course his labor time to put them on.

After:

Boy I am so lucky to have a good hubby who takes care of me he he and my car!!
I watched him do it, and it was fairly simple. Now they are mounted and all that money I saved going with JC's can now go towards a CUSTOM interior job
