Was just wondering, for those of you that have the factory 69 style sidepipes. What type of headers or exhaust manifolds are you using. Also what type of exhaust mufflers or chambers are you using. I am very close to going with side pipes and I am not sure about what to use under the covers and from the heads out. Pics of your exhaust would be great as well. How are your side pipes attached? So many questions, I am finding this would be a large expense as well!

I am driving myself crazy trying to decide on side pipes.
What about the hooker style pipes? How many have gotten your legs burnt and what type of covers have you gone to so it doesnt happen again. I can only imagine what would happen if the wife were to burn her legs if I went with no covers! And we know it would happen. Do the covers work well enough to not burn? I really want to go with some type of side pipe but just dont know which to choose. Any thoughts and help is appreciated. This is a major decision that I am trying to settle for myself.

I have been thinking about the same set-up-side pipes and covers. However, the cost of the systems I have been looking at are in the $2300 just for the reproduction covers (Ecklers). That doesn't include the headers and exhaust. Saving my pennies and looking at other vendors that support C3VR. Good luck.
I have had two people get burned by my side pipes(Hooker sidepipes) one was my son he got a burn about the size of a silver dollar.I want to go to the 69 style side pipes, but because of the cost factor I probably get the fiberglass covers.

I looked at the fiberglass covers also. I have never talked to anyone about how well they deflect heat and how well they hold up to exhaust temperatures. You're right about cost being a factor in making the decision between reproductions and fiberglass though.
I have found a pair of original 69 covers with shields but they are in Texas. I hate buying them without actually seeing them! Anyone near Spring Branch texas? The asking price is $1300 and I think I am going to go the route, the pics I got look to be in very nice shape without problems in the front bends from pealing. Then once you go that way then you have to decide on the actual pipes. There becomes more questions. I'm going to have to send my headers back that I bought because they will be back to far and would require an almost "s" bend to hook up. I guess I wasnt thinking far enough ahead at that time!
