Seen your idees about mufflers, i have the following problem : for historic rallys , circuit driving ( as the Nurburgring) and even driving high way my side pipes are in fact too loud.(I think they are as the original '69 .) Quite racy for short tracks and show ( why not ? ) but not always loved...by the neighbours

So i have a idee : why not mount a complete original exhaust and where they cross the side pipes tubes i'll make a 3-way valve ( each side ) so that i can shut off the side pipes or let them work together.

Anyone done this ? or crazy idee ?

So i can drive with normal exhausts on events ( many check 95 dB !)or make it a bit racy by opening the side ones.In this case should it not be even better as the back pressure will drop , pumping trough 4 exhausts ?

Sorry guys , i'm engineer and always thinking i can do better....

i try it..?????..

I've seen a couple C3s with side exhaust and exhaust coming out the back.  Don't remember how they had it set up, but if you search around enough I'm sure you'll find out how.  Hopefully somebody will come along that maybe knows where to exactly find some info on it.

The exact piece of equipment you need does indeed exist, or at least used to exist.  It's a y-connector with a flap.  The flap is controlled by a cable ran inside the car.  Pull the cable and the flap moves to send the exhaust to the side pipes, or open pipes.  Push it back in and the exhaust flows to the regular mufflers.

I can't remember where I saw them, but check with Summit and Jegs.

I believe they're called "exhaust cut-outs". I have seen them advertised, also, just don't remember where. They do have them that are controlled with an electric motor, also. I've got a new Summit cat. I guess I should look at it!

why not ave a bunch of money and just put better mufflers in the sidepipes ? Put in Turbo baffles in mine. Throaty without being loud, and performance is good.
Just my 2 cents.

my dads 64 vette had just that- exhaust cutouts- sidepipes with dual exhaust out the back. whenever he would race or open it up on the highway, he would switch it to the sidepipes

Scott78, also a idee but my sidepipes are 1 piece welded stainless construction : like 2 tubes above each other , from engine side entering the lower one , exhaust from the top tube. The muffler tube has the form of a 8.Is that like the originals ?
