From experience I can tell you, if you put those HOT tubes on you will get burned, sooner or later. I didn't even have them on my vett but a friends that I rode in regular, it'll get you! You can try the cloth, but that will last a few times and then they forget, or someone eles get in and dosn't know. I have the factory style with the fiberglass covers. I can run all day, get out and rest my hand on the covers, and brush my leg and nothing, I made a wise choice, you can do what you wish, the sounds is very similal from both, and if you have to have the crome covers, you'll just have to spend alot of cash for the real original covers, they even look better than the Hooker crome hot tubes and there original style. I burned myself once on the pipes, only because someone distracted me. I'm the one who wanted the pipes and knew the consequences. I always remember to watch myself on the way out and I'm 5'3". The pipes sound great, but take a lot of polishing!

anybody using a set of jet-hot coated tubes ??

they claim to reduce surface temp 50% at manifold..

wondering how the temp is on the side tubes..

they have a treatment called "jet-hot" arctic which is just a double coating of the insulator...

I emailed them to ask about this situation..

I thought maybe I would get the headers single coated and the side tubes double coated..

I ran the jet hot tubes on a '73. I also got a pretty nasty burn. I left a stain on the tubes that was difficult to polish off. One good scalding was enough for me to learn though. I too was very careful after that.

In this sue happy society we live in, has anyone heard of someone getting sued because some unsuspecting person accidently touched the hot pipes? It seems like this could be one heck of a potential legal liability.

I've had mine for years and even when my 75 year old mother (5'3") gets out, she can do it without getting burned - provided I reminder her each time (hey, she's 75!).

Just swival to the side and step out - no biggie.
