Yes, the dealer told me that it was repainted but he apparently didn't know the circumstances. I would certainly check for repair work.
Yes Joel, Roger's kinda bummed right now because there's been nothing local. Everything worthy and affordable is hundreds of miles away and the logistics just haven't worked out to go see any of them. There's three we want to go look at next weekend, but they are all 200 miles away in three different directions. Just trying to have patience and not fret about the "one that got away."

Be sure and take a floor jack with you and see if they will let you jack up the rear end. Then grab the rear tire and pull from the top as you push from the bottom, then the same from side to side to see if the rear trailing arms/bearings are shot. Also, pull up on the parking brake and see if it works or not.
Joel is right, Karen (whiteheat) is in Sand Springs, so she would be the closest member we have. My wife is from Sand Springs and said it may not be in the best parts of town, but she isn't sure since it's been a while (30 or so years) since she was there last.

I checked my C3 "Restoration Guide" by Richard Prince about the smog info, and it says, "In 1975-77 all cars equipped with L82, NB2, or NA6 (high altitiude emissions package) have an A.I.R. system. All 1973-77 Corvettes have what is commonly referred to as an emissions label glued to the left upper area of the firewall... either white or yellow in color and contains... information about the emissions control systems installed in the car."
...What kind of hassle would it be to return the ...emissions back to original?...
All the AIR equipment will be date coded and dates and part numbers will be checked by NCRS judges. Get the NCRS Judging Manual and the '77 AIM for the correct part numbers you will need. Parts search can begin at that point.
Consider this: if the car is otherwise stock, you could possibly get Top Flight without the AIR. You will take the points hit, but it might not be high enough to knock you out of Top Flight if the rest of the car is A+.
