Vette(s): 1976 Brown with Buckskin Interior. I bought her on 9/15/03 and just received it on OCT 1st 2003!! It needs interior work, and some things under the hood, but I am so excited! Just waiting for Summer of 2004 to totally show it off.
Anyone know where I can order a new exhaust system so that I can have sidepipes for a 1976. Everything I read goes up to 1974, but I see pics of 1976's that have them. Can someone help me out with that???

Vette(s): 1969 Daytona Yellow Coupe - ZZ4/4 speed, Hurst shifter, Griffin aluminum radiator w/ Dual Spals, March Serpentine Pulley kit, Hookers with STS Racing Baffles, VB&P Suspension bits, 17" AR Hopsters, L-88 Hood
Most of the Corvette aftermarket places like Mid America, Corvette Central and Zip's sell all kinds of exhaust systems, side pipes included, for all Shark years up to 1982. It just depends on the look you want. There are either systems with paintable fiberglass covers and chambered pipes to mimic the look of the 1969 Vette side exhaust, or there is the system made by Hooker which has headers and big side pipes in chrome or black...I think thats what is on Eric76's Vette. There are also undercar chambered systems, which gives you the side pipe rumble without the burned legs...I've got them on my '70 and they sound killer.

The reason they are listed up '74 is because in most places, if not all places in the States, it is ill-leagle to remove any pollution controll devices....i.e. catalytic converters on street driven cars. Since converters came along in '75, listing them to '74 covers the manufacturer and retailer from any leagle action concerning emissions.
I am considering the under-car chambered system, pipes look great, but besides the heat factor, they also take more attention to keep in nice shape. I'm more of a "Set it and forget it" kind of a guy.

Hooker Headers sidemounts fit up to a 1977 according to their directions. The go in fairly easy and require minimal modification that can be hidden if removed. Best price at Summit Racing.
Ok for cambered under car, clambered side pipes, but for hooker you must choose a "muffler" type: free flow, glasspack, reverse flow
so my question is how does they sound (too munch noise, like a plane witch land?, like a harley davidson?)
I want hooker side pipes on my '79, so if you have some tips i will ear with a great attention!!(i will probably take glasspack "muffler"

We got our Hooker headers and pipes for our 71 from Performance Automotive Warehouse in California. The prices were good and have free shipping.

That's correct. I have them with the free flow mufflers. They're not as loud as the glass pack, but have a good rumble even with an L-48. They fit like a charm and while they do take some extra care to keep clean, I think they're worth it. I get tons of compliments about 'em everywhere we go.

As noted though, watch out - BURN ALERT! Those baby's get HOT so be careful getting out and don't forget to warn your passengers!!
