Hey Folks! I'm a newbie here! Just purchased my '82...I'm so excited, I can't even sleep at night! Got a question...
The smog pump belt has been removed. Do I really need to replace it and if so, is it alright to drive it in the meantime?
Thanks in advance!

There is no problem running with out it. Is the check engine light on? It mayaffect the o2 sensor, not sure. If you put the belt back on make sure the pump works, maybe that's why the belt was removed.
Good luck with it.

Yep, the "Check Engine" light is on. I assumed (i.e., hoped!) that's all the light was on for.
Thanks for the insight!
Man...this place is grrrreat!
You probably need to check with the NC authorities if your car requires
an annual inspection that includes emissions. Most cars are exempt
after a certain age. I would check before I removd the pump.
p.s What part of NC is Garner located? I am in SC.

Have somebody put a scanner on it to check the codes, it may be something else setting the check engine light.
I removed the air pump, EGR valve, and other things and my check engine light does not come on.
It was on for a speed sensor that I replaced after I bought the car.
That computer (ECM) is one of the first, so it's slow and not so good.
I did the Classic Car plate thing, no emissions check. Works for me!
Sure makes the 82 run better.
