Please forgive the lack of knowledge here, and forgive the local parts counter guy's also. Can any one tell me a part number for a replacement filter sock for inside my fuel tank, that is on the fuel pick up line?
Mine colapased and starved my engine for fuel, so I ripped it off, but I do not intend to operate that way long. I remebr another car I had was that way, missing, is there a problem doing this?

I'm assuming this is for your '69 vette.

I did some checking around for the availability of the strainer or sock if you want to call it that.
I call my friend up who works for NAPA and they don't show a listing for that item, nor does Advanced Auto and Carquest.
BUT! I did find a listing in my Ecklers catalog.
Part #35624 1968-74 Strainer $10.99
And a cheaper listing with Paragon Reproductions
Part #989 $9.00
Another listing from Corvette America -"C3VR sponsor"
Part #33139 $14.00 I would see what our discount might be for that.

I'm surprised that the "parts" houses don't have a listing for this. I'd be willing to bet they do, but they just have them listed as something else...who knows?
I think the sock is pretty much a universal design, and one for one vehicle will fit on another. Just guessing on that, tho.
I do know that you can get them at the parts houses. We get one every time we replace the fuel pump in the later model cars. I'll look around in da garage, and see if I happen to have a one in the box out there, and see what they call it.

I also seen the the parts manual did not call out a seperate item or number for any years near mine. A part, and number, was shown for 76.
I did the calling to parts houses and got the same info, nothing listed, even though a couple guys completely understood what I was looking for.
I happily found that I have a local Corvette restoration parts supplier "Corvette Clinic", and they had what I needed. They called it a "strainer" or "prefilter". I was tickled to go get it in person on a Saturday and verify it was what I needed.
The parts you suggest Darryl81 are cheaper though, I'll buy a spare.
Having a hand small enough to insert to my tank, it was quickly installed on the end of the fuel pick up tube.
I was on the road for a drive. And found a local vette owner admiring my car, and went to view it.
It died on me again though on the way, with help we found my fuel system had already sucked rust particals into it, and my brass filter inside the fuel inlet on my center carb was clogged.
New filter in and back home now. But some cleaning work ahead.
Thank you for all the in put!!

I re-conditioned my tank last summer. I suggest you put in a replaceable filter between the tank and the fuel pump. I put one along the rear frame crossmember between the sending unit and the fixed metal fuel line. I also placed another filter between the pump and the carb. Little things like this can mess up a good drive, good luck.

I had the same idea. Can you tell me the filter manufacteror and number you used.
Getting another new pump at a decent price is on the list too.

I went with simple puralator filters, the metal ones that connect with rubber hoses. You can get a slick earls plumbing setup from summit if you want. Then you wont have any rubber fuel lines.
