I've been working on getting a TPI system for my 77 L48. I
acquired a full system (including ECM, fans, and full harness) from a
91 Trans Am GTA for $100 (what a sweet deal) and I've got all my crap
together. The only things left on the list are the switch for the
fans and a Prominator. Cleaning that tpi unit is an ongoing
project (I HATE blowby...) and tomorrow I'm gonna have to pull off the
harness mods to focus on getting the Vette ready for a trip to Kissimme
for Octobevettes. On that note: If there are any of you guys with
a TPI on a C3 that are going to Octobervettes let me know so I can pick
your brain while we are down there and to see your setups up close!
I've got a digital camera and will be taking pics within the next few days and getting a host so I can post them here. So far all my efforts have gone into aquisition of parts and cleaning all the crap off the manifold, runners and plenum. I'll be moving to harness modification in the next few days, getting rid of the AIR connectors and changing the things that need changing to work alongside all the stock wiring in the Vette. I'm still trying to figure where I'm gonna mount the ECM, Its gotta be accesible from inside the car for tuing with the Prominator, which on a side note I can't seem to find any pricing info on. The site's ordering page ain't working, so I sent an e-mail. Once I get that in I'll be ready to start installation as time allows. As for the engine, it's mostly stock except for the cam, which has a 110 deg. LSA. Anybody got any advice for me on altering the bin to allow for that?
More later, with pics!

I'm interested in how this works out for you. There's a lot of great info on conversions here: http://www.chevythunder.com/index.htm
Ok, here are the promised pics:
Engine as it is now:

The runners, plenum and intake:

Wiring Harness and stuff:

Fuel rails:

Not to shabby. I still need to get one or two things and get the harness sorted out, but I'm ready to go!

I've got a 120 psi MSD external pump with pre filter and post filter that I'm gonna mount on the frame in the rear below the tank. I'll use the existing supply and return lines, perhaps running a 5/16" return if I gotta! Right now I'm concerned about VSS. Some say I need it, some say I don't. I don't have that particular sensor, and I'm not quite sure how I'll get it to work with a mechancial speedo, but I'm sure that if I need it, there's and adapter out there somewhere. If not, I'm probably going to convert to an electrical speedo from AutoMeter. It'll be a great excuse to go to all white face gauges...
What are your plans for the fuel pump?

Talk to the dudes at Howell Engineering. They can point you in the right direction. They have a VSS kit. I think that they are about $75-$80. It screws to the speedo port on the tranny. Then you screw your speedo cable into the VSS. There is a electrical connection on the VSS for the harness to connect to. Explain to them what you are doing, they might say to use one or not to use one.
Just give Howell a call. 1-810-765-5100 or www.howell-efi.com
