Unfortunately, during my absence a mechanic chose to put a Q jet 1904 on a 365 hp 454 1971 corvette. I understand that a 1906 is preferable. In what way is the1904 not suitable and how many hp are lost?
I am rebuilding a 1974 350 corvette. Is the 1904 better suited to this engine?
If I use the 1904 on the 350, what carb would you recommend for the 1971bigblock?
I am having trouble locating the tool k&d # 2776. Can you put me in touch with a supplier who will ship to the UK?
Thanks and regards

Having re-read the e-mail above, I thought perhaps a little background would help. I sent the original e-mail to make sure that the Edelbrock understood that I was talking about a 71 big block and a 74 small block Corvette so that there would be no confusion.
The e-mail above was sent after a short conversation with the Technical Dept at Edelbrock. They informed me that I the 1900 series is obsolete (although fitted brand new in May this year), no tuning manual was available and I should not have the 1904 but rather the 1906. In addtion when I asked about a tuning set of needles and jets, reply was "I wouldn't know where to start".
With reference to the "K & D tool #2776" mentioned in Edelbrocks installation instructions, I asked where I could obtain one and was told "I have no idea". I asked if K&D had a website, I was told "probably". Subsequent numerous searches on the internet have failed to locate either a site for K&D or the tool itself.
Recommendations according to Edelbrock literature:
Carburetor #1901 (750 cfm) for most small and big block Chevy/GMC V8s 327-454cid, both truck and passenger cars, with remote style choke, 1966-1973
Carburetor #1902 (750cfm), as above for 1974-1978
Carburetor #1903 (750cfm), for most small and big block Chevy/GMC V8s 305-454cid, both truck and passenger cars, with hot air style choke, 1975-1985
Carburetor #1904 (750cfm), for small block Chevy/GMC V8s 305-350cid, truck applications only, with full electric choke, 1980-1989
Carburetor #1906 (795cfm), for big block Chevy/GMC V8s 454 engines in truck applications only, with full electric s choke, 1980-1989

Well I can tell you what I heard, and I only have it as a rumor and have not been able to confirm it, but it may be why no one can answer your questions.
I have heard that the company that was making the Edelbrock Q-jets is now close and they are no longer making them. Therefore they are soon to be an obsolete part at Edelbrock. If this is true then that might be why no one could answer your questions, because they got rid of their answer man as the product line went away.

thanks, that makes sense
does anyone have experience with the Q jet series?
Can someone recommend a different carb for a '71 454 if I use the model 1904 on a 74 350 I'm restoring?
thanks and regards

yeah something other than a q-jet...
that 454 needs a square bore !!!!!

I've received no help from their tech dept. in the past with my Edelbrock 1904 Q-jet.
But I got all kinds of awswers from their tech dept. when I expressed an interest in their Pro Flo Injection system.
Get the money and run is what it seems to me.
I actually got tons of help from Jim McGowan "The Quad Shop" at C3X.
