I have a 1980 L-82 with a stock motor and i'm getting ride of all that junk exhaust and cat. I want mufflers with some sound but not real loud, i'm an old hot rodder and i only drive on short trips. Magnaflows,Flowmasters,Dynoflows, tell me what you think guys,i'm leaving it up to you experts.

Welcome to the forum. I had Dynomax and loved them (changed to side pipes) nice sound but will not make you deaf. The Flowmasters are the loudest. If your redoing the whole system, you may want to go with chambered exhaust, great muscle car sound and no mufflers hanging out back. Good luck with it.
Thank you for your trip to Nam! I was in the Army '66-'72 but luckily never had to go over there.

If you want loud, raspy exhaust tones that will wake the neighborhood and have the local constabulary happy making their citation quota, get Flowmaster. If you like deep, mellow sounds, get Magnaflow.
I've had both and as much due to long term hearing problems due to too many rock concerts in my youth and too much gunfire when a police firearms instructor, I like the Magnafows better.

Welcome to C3VR!
For a different take, I used the polished Stainless Steel mufflers from Mid-America Motorworks. Great rumble and not too loud cruising down the highway! I also bought the "off road" exhaust pipes in stainless too (all my emmisions stuff is removed too) from the exhaust manifolds to the polished muffers. It all bolts together so you can do it in your garage. If you show your car or plan to do so, the polished SS mufflers are a great hit with judges and worth a few extra points. They are also easy to keep clean!

Lots of choices on mufflers out there. Go with what fits your style.
I'd just like to add that a true dual exhaust system will definitely benefit your L-82.
My 2 cents; get a true dual system and go with the Magnaflows.
Good luck with it!
Thanks for all the help guys, i really appreciate it.

I just got this exhaust set up http://www.pypesexhaust.com/sys-vette1.html They got a movie clip on that page, click on sounds and you can hear what the system sounds like on a 76. I had their whole system except the downpipes(made my own) on my car and everything lined up nice. You can see some pictures of how mine looks, I will mount the tailpipes and mufflers when the body is back on it. Now, I kind of wish I would've got those hooker side pipes or chambered exhaust though. http://picasaweb.google.com/minnickjason/EngineUpdate
Welcome to C3VR, Wags. I agree with Bruce and Kevin, I have the Magnaflows and think they're great.
They're not too loud, but everyone knows there's a Vette around.

The difference between men and boys is the cost of their toys!!
Yesterday I finished putting DaveM's old exhaust system on my '82.
Went on with no problems.
Everything fit perfectly and the sound is great.
Now I can't wait fro Spring and clean roads.
