This is an 80 - 82 conversion body and interior. The engine # number you show is just the intake manifold # which could fit many models. The VIN is a 1968 convertible VIN.

I smell a lawsuit...I'd be VERY leary of this car. Ain't nothing about it '68, except the VIN. That may not even be right.(BTW...SOME "8"s[in the VIN] in certain years look funky anyway)
I know of a guy that took the VIN plate off of an '81 car to put on an earlier car, because he had a title to the 81 car, but not the early car.
Went full custom on it, so if he did get stopped, it would be hard to tell the car wasn't really an '81.
I'd be REALLY scared of this car, and the TITLE issues you may wind up with, either now, or later, if YOU try to sell it....Do you have some way to get the title verified, or have a friend in law enforcement that could check it out?

The VIN derivitive is stamped on the top of the frame rail in front of the #4 body mount, driver's side.

Looks like my VIN pic is making the rounds...

Your pic? I stole it and am not embarassed to admit. It's about the best pic of the frame stamp I've ever seen.

Early '68 at that. Probably October, 1967. Does she have a C in the time/build code?
I think you have a '68 convertible which has been redone by a previous owner with 80-82 bodywork and interior. Extensive work, but not impossible.

Thanks!
It is actually a bit of white paint, not chalk, that I spread over the VIN and wiped away the excess. Only problem with the pic is that the last number isn't visible (which is ok for demonstration purposes).
Gentlemen,
Behave, your post have both been hidden and noted.
Those kind of accusations and finger pointing are not necessary...even if they weren't meant in a mean spirited way, they could be taken that way.
Let's all get along...
