My neighbors husband died and now she would like to know what this car should be worth. I contacted an appraiser who came out today and went through the car with me. She will have his report early next week.

I am not looking to get anything here just making conversation. The car is in beautiful shape but has not been started in a lot of years. The motor is a rebuilt and it appears the block was restamped at that time. You can see that the pad has been ground and the correct numbers stamped over the area.

The frame is solid but I was told that the brakes need to be rebuilt and that is why he stopped driving the car.
what a nice project this car would be but I am not going there. My 73 has way to much sweat equity for me to do another one.

like I said, just chatting

Hello, After a couple of re dos myself, I'm not getting younger. I've done my last. Be advised the 68' like the 76' has its share of "one of" parts. Some will not interchange with other years. As for worth, in this day and age, it's ALL in who wants the car, and what they want to do with it. Many today do not have the mechanical ability to take on the upkeep challenge. The older the body the less it can tolerate the contortions it takes to get in and out. The C3 bodies are by far the most admired.

There have been several '68s come through Bring a Trailer lately.  After the appraisal comes back it might be worth it to take a peek for comparisons.  Prices on BaT tend to be a bit on the high side but as a seller that's what you want.

Just an update

the appraisal came in at $39,000

i have no idea of how to help her find a buyer and don’t really want to get that involved. I know she would like it to be gone and isn’t expecting to get that much.

$39,000 seems a little high, from just the few pics. It definitely needs some work, and if the engine has been re-stamped, it hurts the real value for someone looking for "original" stuff. $30,000 should be doable. Local ads, or club newsletters/websites could be used.
