My neighbors husband died and now she would like to know what this car should be worth. I contacted an appraiser who came out today and went through the car with me. She will have his report early next week.
I am not looking to get anything here just making conversation. The car is in beautiful shape but has not been started in a lot of years. The motor is a rebuilt and it appears the block was restamped at that time. You can see that the pad has been ground and the correct numbers stamped over the area.
The frame is solid but I was told that the brakes need to be rebuilt and that is why he stopped driving the car.
what a nice project this car would be but I am not going there. My 73 has way to much sweat equity for me to do another one.
like I said, just chatting

Hello, After a couple of re dos myself, I'm not getting younger. I've done my last. Be advised the 68' like the 76' has its share of "one of" parts. Some will not interchange with other years. As for worth, in this day and age, it's ALL in who wants the car, and what they want to do with it. Many today do not have the mechanical ability to take on the upkeep challenge. The older the body the less it can tolerate the contortions it takes to get in and out. The C3 bodies are by far the most admired.
$23-24,000 at best.
There have been several '68s come through Bring a Trailer lately. After the appraisal comes back it might be worth it to take a peek for comparisons. Prices on BaT tend to be a bit on the high side but as a seller that's what you want.
Just an update
the appraisal came in at $39,000
i have no idea of how to help her find a buyer and don’t really want to get that involved. I know she would like it to be gone and isn’t expecting to get that much.

$39,000 seems a little high, from just the few pics. It definitely needs some work, and if the engine has been re-stamped, it hurts the real value for someone looking for "original" stuff. $30,000 should be doable. Local ads, or club newsletters/websites could be used.

I showed the car to a friend of mine a week ago. He offered 25k but was willing to go up some. Today I am showing the car again to another guy that is a bit of a collector, he is willing to offer 33k
I have a third guy interested but he hasn’t setup a time to come look at it yet.
All these guys are finding out about the car through word of mouth so I hope to get her the best deal but I don’t expect her to get rich off the deal.
One of the guys wants me to try to start the car but I won’t recommend just putting a battery in and turning the key. I got to believe you would want to to hand rotate the motor first and drain the old fuel out of the tank. As long as the car has been sitting I would be leery of the carburetor gaskets and such.

I am of the same opinion on NOT starting the car. It will need some T.L.C before lighting a fire in the cylinders. Prices are always negotiable, and depends on demand plus the goals of the buyer.
She sold today for $28k
all is good and my neighbor is very happy that it’s over with. and it gets off my plate
tgd guy that bought it is a collector I am told so I’m sure it will get the treatment it needs
