Here's my $.02. *****
I think the '68 will be worth far more in the future than the '74 -- even if the '74 is an original BB. The performance was so "detuned" out of the BB's by '74 that being "original" is not as big an advantage as you may think in the long haul. Although I've not driven a '74 BB, I've heard them described as "giant lead anchors." (Sorry to pick on '74's if any of you reading this owns one of them.) Even though '68 is not the "cream of the chrome bumper crop" like '69's & '70's are, if you must make a choice -- I'd go with the '68.

before anyone tries to shoot me ...

i was trying to make the point that even though a 56-62 sell for quite a bit of money...

that they all sell at pretty much the same price.

in twenty years maybe 68-74 will be the same way..

if you dont like the actual performance of the 74BB.. pull the original motor and drop in a 502.

keep the original in 55 gal drums of oil..

a convertible 68 327 really isnt that rare

there were 18,630 68 verts made.
there were a little over 5000 74 verts made.

Both, you will never regret it, plus if you end up divorced you will get at least 1 vette...I think |confusing|

A good point. And now that you've cleared that up, I can put my gun away |laugh| |laugh| |laugh|

Seriously, though, I think that the one-year-only cars will eventually be the "cash cows." (yeah, I know, anybody who uses the word "cow" in reference to a Vette should probably be shot |laugh| )
The '63 - new front end body style, split window
The '68 - totally new body style, unique doors (among other things)
The '73 - half chrome, half plastic "what do I want to be when I grow up" (possible, but I doubt it - no offense)

Given that the '74 is #'s matching and original, the collector value of it should stay close to the one-year-only '68. I wouldn't expect a night-and-day difference between the two in ten years (I don't consider $5K to be night-and-day).

Either way, you get a good Vette. For me it's easy - I am a chrome bumper junkie and always have been. And that's what I'm willing to pay for.

One man's opinion. |cheers|

John

Kind of late to reply....
But

My choice would be to buy the 74 BUT keep the 68 ...

IF you can only have one then to be honest I would much rather have the 68....(I mean without a doubt)...!!!!

My vote would be for the '74 but I would check those numbers and have to wonder why it,s a steal. haveing both would be good. I'm sure my wife would understand... then again maybe not. I resently sold a '75 small block convertable for $18000. |thumb|

Does anyone know of ANYONE who ever sold a chrome bumper vette and didn't regret it later??

I constantly hear people at cruise-ins, etc. who say "I used to have a 68 and I really wish I had kept it", or "selling my 72 was the dumbest thing I ever did", or "Man, I think about my 73 every day since I sold it"

Keep the 68... If you can afford it, get the 74 too..
