Maybe too late for another comment, but you might want to consider the "rule of fours" as published in Corvette Fever a couple of years ago. The article stated that any Vette year ending in four was somehow destined to be looked down upon (and thus less valuable) than other years. They provided statistics about the '54, '64, '74, '84 and indications about the '94. My vote would be to stay with the '68. Of course I'm partial to chrome bumpers (even if mine only has them on the back.) Of course you could always do what the guy in the latest classic car show did -- claims his car is a '72 but has a full opening front and no chrome bumpers on either end. Maybe there is something about living too close to nuclear power plants, besides the glow in the dark fish that is.
