Howdy! Can any one tell me whether a 74 came with a full size tire or a donut tire.

It should have come with a full sized tire. My 75 did (it's still there). Remember that the tires then were much thinner so it might look like a donut at first glance.

this reminds me of what "how to restore and modify your 68-82 corvette"
says about the 68-72 models.. "engines too big, tires too small"
thats when i knew I had to have one..
