What hood came with the 79.I have a lady friend with a 79 , and the hood is much different than mine. It's higher and it don't "Teardrop", it just fades straight in.

Click on the pic of my '74 in my sig...this is what the '73-'79 hoods looked like, with the exception of the grill at the rear edge. '77 was the last year for that feature.
Here is what the '80-'82 hoods looked like(Thanks Dan)

Your hood prolly has been changed somewhere down the line.

I just went and looked at your pics...that hood is NOT original to the car...it is the later '80-'82 style hood. The front bumper cover is also molded into the body...I'd guess your car has had quite a bit of modifications over the years, from the pics. Thumbs Up
Looks good, tho!

Yeah the gap between the body and the nose cone has been "bondo"'ed.Want to get that taken care of during my paint and body project later down the road.Probably shrank over the years and was easier and cheaper to bondo. If you look closely at the pics you can see where someone cut the front fenders to keep the tires from rubbing.Looks like they did it with a chainsaw.Gonna fix that too someday.
So will be looking for an original hood now.

With the exception of the batwing style diff, are there any other differences on the frames from 79 to 80?

The transmission cross members are different.

'79 and earlier have two holes or openings for the stock exhaust pipe or pipes to pass through. One on each side of the transmission mount.

'80-'82 has just a small hump on the passenger side for the exhaust to clear.

O.K.
That helps.Next question is are the crossmembers interchangable from 79 to 80.My crossmember has 2 holes for the exhaust.

Really need to get some pics from underneath but don't have a lift.

I don't know if they will interchange. Our transmission Guru Joel might have that answer.

I would think that they might due to the frames are pretty similar in dimensions. I could be wrong though.

My question is...is the crossmember welded in or is it bolted in? If it's welded in, its most likely original. Underside pics would really help out.

The automatic crossmembers were bolt ins, and the 4 speeds were welded. ALL of the automatic crossmembers will interchange, as far as bolting into the frame. Ed( 2tonevette1981) used a crossmember from a '77 on his 700 install.

Due to cruddy weather today and nothing to do, I did some research this afternoon. Starting in '80 both automatic and manual transmission cross members became bolt in units.

I did a little more research on another forum I frequent, and there was a picture of the '79 and earlier cross member and a '80 cross member. I looks like with a little cutting, grinding and welding you can make it fit. As for the '81-'82's, the driver side floor pans are deeper for the power seat option. I don't think the earlier cross member will clear on those years. Who knows.

I think we really need some good underside pics to figure out what he has. Confused
