Vette(s): 1980 Red/Red L82, 20,700 miles. Original tires and air filter. Survivor.

Can anybody tell me or show a picture of the correct gas cap for a late built 1980 Corvette? Corvette Restoration guide shows a picture of the correct one I think, with 12 indentations around the edge. NCRS manual shows a similar cap in a picture but with several indentations around the edge, even though in their text they say "twelve indentations". I'm thinking the 12 indentations with NDH and 22503147 stamped in may be the right one. Second, does anybody have one for sale? Thanks.

'79-'81 caps are the same, with only the date codes being different. Notice the small "SM" logo on the cap top...this is the manufacturer's logo. Date code is embossed on the inside, plastic area, and is a Julian date for day of the year, and 1 number for the year.

Thanks for the info. CRG says the cap you show is for 1980 only. And NCRS is off, says has NDH stamped. I'm sure these were replaced on a regular basis and hard to tell what truly came on the car. Mine is similar in looks but has a different number and no date code, obviously a replacement. I'll keep an eye on ebay for one like you show. Thanks again.

I hear ya! Everyone is an "expert". However, the part number itself shows in the GM parts manual to be used on '79-'81 Corvettes. At any given time, there could have been more than one supplier to GM for ANY part, but the manufacturers always had their logo, or some mark identifying the manufacturer. The "SM" logo is the more common for fuel caps, in my experience. If having the car judged, the "incorrect" logo would be a very small deduction, assuming the rest of the cap was correct. 👍
