Several kind people have posted information about finding the vin on the frame of their c3 vettes - mentioning various years but not 1981. I am burning a lot of energy looking on the top of the frame rail near the rear-left body mount. No luck so far. Can anyone verify that in 1981 that was the vin location? Or was it moved somewhere else?

The number is there. They can be really hard to see on some cars, depending on the condition of the frame(rust/dirt/grime, etc.).

I have looked on a 75' with no success either. Rusted away, poorly printed, or I ground it off looking.

It took me quite a while to find the stamp on my '74, but I did eventually find it....it's damn well hidden with the body on! It might be near impossible to see if there is a lot of rust on the frame, but the stamp is pretty deep, usually. I don't know if it's possible to take a pic of one, either. I had to use a mirror to be able to see mine....but it IS there. I have found them on other cars, too.

The body is off my 75. I've sanded and looked, but no success. UNLESS it's not where it's suppose to be.
Seems like the frame I saw had it on the top of the left frame rail between the transmission cross member and the rear cross member at the kick ups.

I sanded on a 75' today, and found nothing. I worked on the portion of frame that is beveled in, not on the flat top. Left rail, between the gas tank cross member, and where frame starts to hump up.
