These cars are definately a love hate relationship. I look at her lines and I'm in love, I go for a cruise, I'm in love. Anytime I am loosening a bolt that has not been touched in 25 years I am in for some pain. Anyone with some money can own a C5, it takes passion to own a C3. I am sure I will always own at least one C3. Although, I would like to have a new one for a daily driver.

Take your time and tackle one problem at a time. Take care of the one that is bothering you the most. Once it is behind you, you will feel better about it.

Adam:
That is one hell of a list ... lol

But I sure can relate

Last weekend I fired up the computer in the garage just to check on what "little" things I had to correct this winter.

Since I own 5 Corvettes and a Chevelle and not a single one of them has fewer then 5 or 6 "little" things wrong with them it looks like I have more then a few "shop" days ahead of me...

Every time I drive one of the cars I seem to notice something that just is not right and when I pull in the garage I walk over and fire up the computer and enter
the problem.

Come October "my list" is a lot longer then yours...BUT
since I honestly enjoy tinkering with my toys I do not
get upset...in fact I think of the needed time as pure relaxation..

Bob Griffiths

BTW: My "winter" season begins the day after Thabnksgiving and my goal is to have all the cars back in shape by April Fools day when the garage doors open to start another "year"...

Look at the bright side Adam, you can't get bored with it. Then compare it to what I have to do to mine, and your's look like a few minor light duty things.

As you nail them one by one, ask away.

I gotta believe almost everybody in here has got almost the same size list maybe a little bigger or smaller.it's some thing you have to live with, with cars this old.although most of them look as though they just came off the showroom floor,it has been a long, long, time since they sat at your local chevy dealer smiling through that big plate glass window, begging for you too come in and take them home with you.especially with that 3 to4 thousand dollar window sticker |laugh| Buck it up Adam work on it when you can,the rewards are great, look how far you've come already, man you own a VETTE,do you have any idea how many guys and gals have wanted one all there life, and still do'nt,a lot of us guys and gals did'nt get ours till we hit our 50s,thats a long time to wait for anything.some times when I go out in the garage to work on my Vette,I'll just reach into the little fridge grab a cold brown bottle ,sit down in my chair, and look at her,man just sitting there she looks like she's flying down the road.and I know I've said this b-4 ,a CORVETTE is like a time machine you get inside ,and close your eyes and your young again, just open them and go,with all the other shit going on in the world we need a break.feelin good aint bad, SAVE THE WAVE SHARKS RULE |thumb| |wavey|

Vette(s): Used to own a 1979 Corvette now owned by JB79

Bringing this thread back....

I took my car to County Corvette on Saturday 1/29.  I gave them pretty much the same list that is at the top of this thread.  Got a call today... the first couple of things they are going to work on:

  1. Rebuild Carb.  He said fuel is just dumping into the carb at idle and even after the car is off.  Which explain the fuel smell, probably had an effect on MPG and also stalling when stopping fast. Oh, and probably had to do with the oil (or gas) blowing out the tail pipe.
  2. Replace all vacuum lines.  He said there are about 26 vacuum leaks.  Which is causing many of my running issues too.

Once he gets these two items nailed down, he can then look at some of the other issues, which may go away by the time these two items are fixed.

Adam, just a thought concerning your carb.  Probably most of you really smart guys have figured this out a long time ago....sometimes just rebuilding the carb won't fix the external/internal leaks.

I had the local carb shop do mine a while back because of leaks, but just the other day I see it seeping externally again. The engine compartment is spotless clean, so things like this are noticed right away.

Over time the carb housings/bodies become warped and no longer fit properly because of heat, and overtightening stuff. I hear the professional rebuilders correct these problems and the gaskets seal properly for years to come.

The reason why I mention this is because I'll need to send mine out again, pay again, just more stuff to fix again...see my point?

[/QUOTE]

I'm not sure how I could keep track to count up to 26 leaks. Sure would be a test of my sanity to track all of those down let alone replace all those lines.

Hang in there and let us know the outcome of all those leaks.
