Hopefully my panel of experts will step up and settle an argument with an old friend of mine.

He says that all 350sb engines produced in 1978 for Corvettes are exactly the same that were used in the whole V8 Chevrolet line such as in Impalas etc. Most vetters in my circle say that all 350sb engines are not created equal and that ones used in vettes are not internally/externally the same. Anyone out there know the real truth...........???????

All replies will be greatly appreciated.

And Happy Holidays to all................

Well technically all 350 ci engines are the same as far as design..BUT the internals ie the crank material..piston type and blah blah blah..it's real simple..they are the same but there are so many different types of power and emissions type engines that it's impossible to list them all..the numbers game that GM has labeled every part on an engine is to show what the part was designed to do..and what it went on..so your bud is right..but technically wrong...

The L82 was different in cam, and exhaust. Most L82s were also 4 bolt mains. There are minor carb calibration differences, also, between any of the car lines(Corvette/Camaro/Caprice, etc). Rich is right in that the L82s usually had forged cranks, as opposed to cast cranks. Basically, all 350 engines share the same Mama...some just had different daddies....
