Vette(s): 68 roadster
Hello fellow C-3 enthusiasts.
I have a 68 roadster with no protecto plate or RPO data label.
This perticular car has had many Balwin-Motion type body mods and could very well be a Motion car. The origional drive train is gone and a 327 and trans from another vehicle is in its place. It has a rear diff coded either CE or CF can't tell with diff in car do to casting flaw. Fan shroud is gone.
Is there any archives from GM or Motion perfomance on what this car may have been. Gm had stored records at the Warren Tech center, but somebody with barrels full of wisdom decided to destroy all non essential records and GM can't help me. Body mods include big flares, different nose with custom grill that somebody has hacked in a set of sqaure headlights, different hood, smooth tailsection, no bumpers, reversed gill panels, Motion style paint, ect.. Body mods don't appear very clean to me. Is there any way to take the vin and find out what this thing is suppossed to be.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Rob...

Other boards have discussed this at length. There is currently no data to indicate that GM has, or had, accurate records of VIN #'s and original equipment. As they say in France, "you are SOL" for determining how your car was equiped. Now, if you find a build sheet or tank sticker that is another thing.

The Balwin Motion thing has also been discussed elsewhere. If I remember what I read, it seems that the guy who set this shop is still around. For a princely sum ($1000 or $1500 come to mind) he will pull out his archives and tell you whether or not you have a real McCoy or a clone. Weren't there lots of folks copying this just like the guys who added stuff to their Mustangs to make them Shelby's. Looked good but they were clones.
