Vette(s): Am activly looking for my first Vette... A convt. big block manual 68-70.
I don't know that much about C-3's... YET! but I found a web site that has the vin breakdown for every year of vette. Yet it doesn't list an option for a 454 cu.in. motor but I am finding 68 and 69 vettes with 454's for sale are these cars that have had engine swaps???
The only rule to achieving total victory is... NO SURVIVORS!!!

If you see a 68-69 with a 454 its is NOM(not original motor) 454 was first available in 1970. Pre 1970 the big blocks were 427 cubic inches. You need to be real careful with Big Blocks they are bringing premium money and as a result there are many fakes. 427 and 454's where also a popular truck engine. They have the same displacement but do not preform quite the same unless modified. NOM reduces the value somewhat also.
Hi
Sometimes, during a engine overhaul, people decide to go bigger and install 454 guts, meaning that they stroke the block and normally also go .030 oversize.
In this case, the engine is still considered a numbers matching as the block's interior can not be checked.
B4 purchasing a expensive big block numbers matching vette, make sure, you post all available numbers, like vehicle VIN number, engine block casting number and date, and it's stamped S/N ( VIN ) and suffix number.
People on this board will be able to help in pricing those cars.
Good luck. Gunther
