I just purchased an unmolested original 1969 BB Coupe. I am picking it up in Oregon on Wed. The Vette is mint with very minor flaws. It is numbers matching. Daytona Yellow wth black interior. The question I have is what is the Birdhouse.

Vette(s): 1979, Targa Blue (72 Color), Pace Car rear spoiler, L88 hood, Dark blue factory interior, 525HP 406, HD 700R4, 370 gears,Steeroids, composite rear spring, TT IIs wrapped in T/A Radials.
I think you mean the birdcage. It's basically a steel cage that frames out the passenger compartment. Very common to have some serious rust issues. Tell tale signs include water on the cRpets under your feet when washed or sitting in the rain. Pull off a kick panel - good spot to get an idea if you're curious. Many of us have decided to leave it alone...
Hope she's clean and congrats!

Ah Ok. I did check everywhere for rust, under hood and frame, but there is no evidence of any rust.
The vette is extremely clean, and has all the original components in the engine compartment including the Air Pump, By the way its the 390 HP Version. All Vaccuum assist stuff works, like headlights and the windshield wiper panel. Chrome is all original. The car did receive a repaint in 1982, after a pickup truck backed into it while parked. The damage was on the nose between the Headlights.

i have a pretty extensive project website detailing a complete ground up rebuild on a 69 convetible.
It shows what to do with rust on frame, birdcage, etc.

Sounds like a honey Armin, and I love those colors. If you're from the northwest, keep in mind we're having our annual gathering on the west coast in the summer of 2010 in Bend Oregon. It only rotates to the west coast every 3 yrs. we hope you'll think about joining us.
