To all:
Is there any 68&69 guys here with an orignal am/fm stereo in there car? If so in my quest to find one of these radio systems I have been told everything about them including that I'm nuts. Nothing new, but if someone can tell me what color does the stereo in the upper right hand corner light up? I was guided to the NCRS web sight by an other member but it appeared to me that tyhere were a lot of people with varying levels of knowledge that was percieved rather than fact. So if I can get it here from someone that has one I'll go with that. BTW I found one depending on this info. Thanks

I have the plain ol' AM/FM, but I checked Richard Prince's Corvette Restoration Guide and it says that the word "stereo" is illuminated with a green light in both '68s and '69s with the Delco AM/FM stereo radio. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the reply. The books I have don't go into the radio any. Since you have the book would you be willing to pass along the part # for the stereo? I realize its a sticker that usually becomes dislogged but--.

My present books don't have the stereo numbers information. Maybe someone else can give you definite info. The word "stereo" is in block letters for a '69, and the knobs are a whole lot cheaper if you need to replace one. Have you searched some of the salvage websites? Maybe an email to one of them can get you specifics.
Big Block -- Do you have the AIM for '69? It would go a long way toward showing you what you're after. The early Shark stereos require a convector in order to operate. These are seperate from the actual stereo unit and were usually mounted above the heater defroster box. They consist of a big transistor and a heat sink. If you don't have the convector, your stereo won't work. It was common for previous owners to upgrade to different stereo unit and leave the convector up under the dash. Take a look and see if you can find yours.

Easy Mike: Thanks for the input. I have an AIM and I know what to look for in so far as the system components make up. The biggest problem is you can't see thru the land line or PC know what I mean? I have bought this particular system not cheap either. It's a complete system refurbished warranted for 1 yr. 30 money back. So if this doesn't work out I can get my $$ back. My car had all pieces picked from it. Probably buying it back? Ha Ha

Hey Big Block,
When I was looking for a radio Mark (Mark72LS5) found a picture of a torn apart dash that clearly showed the radio assemblies. Look in the C3 Parts For Sale/Wanted forum for my posting wanted: radio for a 1970 (found one...!!!). Hopefully it is still there.
Also, if you checkout the Auctions/Electrical/C3 Radio there has been someone with radios for sale quite often. Seems to be a refurbisher/resaler who might be able to give you some help. Chase the e-mail link from http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1810444838&r=0&t=0

Jim: Good lead to auction site. I did look at pic and down loaded it to send to a guy who was SURE there was only two pcs to the system and I was mis informed. Sent the pic and told him to check out the AIM. The biggest problem was he told me it was a 3 pc. unit I sent $$ to buy then he says its a 2pc'er got $$ back.

Big Block I may be able to help you some, let me know.
I have a book called "1969 Edition - Radio Service Manual" by Delco Radio. It has
about any part number for the parts to the Delco radios. The 1969 Corvette AM/FM Stereo
was considered a 3-piece outfit. You had the radio (part no. 91VFM1), the Multiplex Adapter
(part no. 91MVP11), and the peice they called the "convector". In a standard AM/FM
there was only the radio and the convector. Does this help at all?
