Been awhile since I last posted about the car. Not much has happened to move things forward yet a lot has happened. Doesnt make sense does it!
I have the carpet in place which was a tedious job. Looks ok for an amateur doing it in my opinion but I could be the wrong person to ask! I then installed the parking brake console and center console. Now its time for the tricky part, putting in the gage cluster and screwing it into place. Well first I removed the clock and replaced it with my trans temp gage. Sorry to all those that hate to see anything go away from original but Aint nothin else close to original so one more thing wont matter. Now for the oil gage, I couldnt find a line kit that would tighten up with the copper line so I had to go be 2 new brass fittings to a seal. ( i bought 2 OE line kits and 2 after market kits, nothing tightened up that I felt comfortable with!) Next I had to replace all the bulbs while the gage center console was out. Then theres the 2 small covers that go at the bottom of the center gage console and at the front of the console. Well the screw jholes dont line up. I contact the vender and send pics and I find out that the console was drilled at the wrong place so I will drill new holes. The vender doesnt understand how tat could have happened. Told him its easy, I get all the screwy stuff. My LUCK! Yes they would replace it but Im not pulling it back our, cutting out the rivets for the bracket and replacing the support under there. Thats kind of where the actual work is I completed. But there has been more stuff bought to put on at some point. A member here 3 weeks ago posted about his exhaust he was putting on so I purchased his just repainted reworked side pipe assembly. Then there are the new wheels and tires to put on as I decided on thrust II and put the cragers on the 74. Went with Hankook Ventus tires since thats what I sell now! Also decided that the 3:55's I bought werent going to be enough gear so I found a set of 4:11's I bought. now this all means its going to be longer till its completed. I think Ill hold off on the pipes till winter since the exhaust on it now is brand new and I can run it this fall. The rear Im not sure when it goes in. Its looking like its not going to be done till some time this fall. May not get it to Carlisle this year like I was hoping for.
Anyway thats the latest. When I get time to figure out posting pics i'll get some up.

Rodney the 4:11 gears won't work if you have a 3 series carrier. You would need a 4 series carrier to mount the steeper gears. You might have already known this, but I thought to mention it, just in case.

Your going to have to do a little more explaining to me. The gears arrived Friday before I left and they are already in the carrier. I did see there was no plate on the back so ring and pinion are visable. Gotta make them work now that I already have them! This may get interesting. Dont tell me, but I bet if i throw more money at it I can find a way to use it? Ahhh, here I sit on vacation for the next 9 days not knowing! I knew I should have ask more questions before buying them. I guess the good thing is I have a set of 3:55 that I can go with if these wont work. Well Larry I'll wait for you to educate me further on this.

Thanks
Rodney

Great news on the progress. There's no right or wrong with what you do to your Vette UNLESS you're going NCRS, which is a whole different story. If you can't bring the 72 to Carlisle, at least brimg the 74! (although I really can't wait to see the 72!) But remember aslong as YOU like it all is GOOD!

Rod, here is a couple of links one is for a 3 series carrier (all gears 3:08 to 3.90)    http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ETN-19670-010/   And here is a link for a 4 series carrier (gears 4:11 & 4:56)http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ETN-19673-010/
Rod,  I was having problems with my server, that's why I didn't get back sooner.

Good news, you thought I was buying just the gears. Im sorry I should have said I bought a complete ready to go rear already set up with 4:11 in it. I thought you meant it wouldnt physically fit. I understand what you are saying now. Im starting to feel better already! lol. I think I actually got a great deal on this. The gears appear to be new and were described as new. Bought them from a person in Florida that bought a vette that was being restored and this assembly was on the passenger side floor never installed. I paid $565 for the unit shipped to me in PA. I think this will help make the car more fun to drive and with the overdrive should be ok on the highway. As others (Blue Barry) will tell you I am not a person that likes driving at high speeds anyway. Most of the driving will be in town or I may even decide to make a few passes at a track! Make me feel like a kid again! Anyway I appreciate your thoughts in looking out for me on this. Glad its going to work out!

Thanks Again, this is why this group of members are the best.

Rodney, I'm sure glad everything worked out for you. Yes, I misunderstood. You sure got a bargain. Things are shaping up, except for your mirror issue. take care!
