Has anyone eliminated the thermal limiting fuse in the a/c wiring after converting to R134?

The purpose of the thermal fuse is to protect the compressor in case of either low freon level or high pressure. The thermal fuse is used with a compressor that has a "superheat" switch(normally "open") on the back of the compressor. If the switch on the compressor switches, it ground the thermal fuse and pops it, turning the compressor off to prevent damage. Lots of folks bypassed the thermal fuse, but you can also convert the system to one that uses a high pressure switch instead, but that requires changing the compressor.

You can simply jumper the "B' and "C" terminals of the thermal fuse connector to eliminate the fuse. Understand you will have NO protection for the system if something takes a doo-doo, but it will work until that happens... 😉

Thanks for the reply Joel. I have changed the compressor over to the direct replacement lighter one for the R134. I have replaced the POA valve and the expansion valve, the POA valve is the cycling type and has the pressure switch. I was thinking of removing the thermal fuse from the system. I wanted to see if anyone else had done this.

Yup...all ya need to do is jumper the connector(or cut it off and splice the wires back) and be done with it!

I'm fairly certain I have a wiring diagram here somewhere for doing just that....lemmie look...
