Vette(s): 1978 L48 mohogany with black leather interior. everything original.great shape.

i have a 1978 corvette 25th ann.  i jus put new exhaust on and the interior was redone before i bought it and everything is great except for the missing clock. my lights dont open, my cruise control dont work and i need to replace the rear bearings, replace some more thing s in the rear and get an alignment because the car is all over the road. all this is not cheap and 78s dont really have any power unless u put power in urself. i have to put alot of money in this car to make it good and safe to drive every day. but  ive been thinking about getting an 03' 50th anniversary. its not that old and i wouldnt really have problems for a while. i just love the body style of my 78'. i jus dont wanna pay to keep my car together. i could get the 03' but i have to sell my 78'. i jus dont know what would be best for me to do. any help????   ideas.......opinions  thanks!

Vette(s): 1965-327 coupe, 1968-small block coupe, 1969-427, 1971-454 coupe and currently a 1976-ZZ4 coupe reborn again,and hotter than ever.. Add a 1996 CE LT-4 for backup
Well Wesley, how do you want to look at this? You like the 1978 body style but to much money to get her in shape? How much will you spend on the 2003? The work on 1978 will be repairing neglect from the past owner. That will be fun and put you close to your car. replacing the clock, working on the air lines to repair the lights, some things may be done in the shop. Look what you will have when complete. Your insurance for the 78 will be way cheaper then the new one, because of the age , classic, antique. I dont know your financial position so hard to say. I will say it's all based on your cash flow and what your heart says to you about being a Corvette owner. You talk about power, that will cost you all the way around, fuel, insurance, maintenance, tires and so on. The 1978 has more than enough power to keep up with traffic, no, it has more power than needed to pass traffic. It's your choice my friend..TerryClap

Vette(s): #1 -1969 Corvette Coupe Riverside Gold, black interior,MN,A/C,350/350,PS,PB,window cranks. #2 -2000 C5, black/black, 6 sp, Bose system & lots of buttons.
Well, the C5's don't have the BEST electrical system.  Chevy has always had some problems with electrical.  Then ya got that computer in it.  The darn things do everything for you. Dead

Your C3 will increase in value faster (it is now) than the '03.  Wink  Right now the C5's are depreciating. Dead

If you can't make up your mind, get a second job and buy the '03 C5...LOLLOL

I would love a 50th Annie too, but not at the risk of loosing my C3. I am greedy. If I can't afford both, I'll keep the C3.
Sure it needs work and things will wear out and fail, but compared to the depreciation of a 2003, it is chicken feed.
The C5 probably gets better gas milage, but I don't drive every day.
And the insurance is a big factor.
You will always have the option of getting a newer Vette someday.
You may regret not having the C3 every day.

But, that's just me.
You might feel different about your cars.

Vette(s): 1978 Silver Anniversary L82 4spd (M21) Red Leather. Pace Car is in the hands of a new caretaker.
I agree with Ron. If it's a C3 it don't need to be red to get looks. My stock 78 goes plenty fast enough for me. I'd have a tough time parting with it. They make new ones every day, but no more C3's.
If you want the other side of the story you ain't gonna get it here, this is C3 land.Big%20smile

Vette(s): 1978 L48, p/s, p/w/ factory ac car factory manual trans has a 350 crate engine w/260hp, but also have original which may be rebuilt- we also have a 76 w/ a 454, and 74 350 in various stages of being rebuilt, plus an 86 and an 02....
I faced the same choice when I recently bought my car- After looking at all factors, the 78 seemed the way to go- newer isn't always better- the sheer number of 03's made will keep it from retaining and gaining value as the older vettes have.  Plus, as someone else said- I can fix my car when something goes wrong- there's no way I would even attempt to work on a new one!!

A C5 is going to cost a few dollars to buy and a lot of dollars to fix if something goes out on it. I you are worried about day to day reliable transportation then I would say keep the C3, fix as you have time and money. Go out and buy a 5 yr old econobox for your daily transportation. The C3 is only going to go up in value while the C5 will continue to go down.Wink When you ask a bunch of C3 crazzies a question like that, you kinda know what the answer will beLOLLOL
