You have alot of guts kid asking C3 folks if you should buy a C5...
Luckily for you many of us are multi-vette owners and aren't offended....
Those above are all correct in their analogies. Your C3 is going to continue to ask money of you for the repairs it needs. Thats a small cry compared to the $35K your going to shell out for the 50th Anniversary car.
Heaven forbid that something requires maintenace on it soon. Even the run flats will chomp close to $2K out of your pocketbook.
Payment a month $500 - $600 a month depending on how long. Insurance not sure, I'm an old guy an mine is $60.00 a year on my C3 versus $700.00 a year on my C5.
No comparison in ride between the 2 cars. But you can park my 2 cars in a parking lot and more people will look at my C3 because they don't see American Muscle like that much anymore. You can sit at a street light and see C5's about any day.
Tuff Choice..... Good Luck!

Vette(s): 77 xtreme project,80 project,and a 74 L48/auto white with blue interior!
Or you can be like me and cram C5 and C4 stuff into a C3. best of all worlds. You can think of it like this also. How much ya got in 78 now... how much more will the C5 be... How nice will the 78 be with that extra money. Plus you won't be like everyone else at starbucks. IMO

The problems your describing don't sound that bad. And if you got good paint, interior and exhaust then your not in that bad of shape at all!! I'm thinking you can pretty much rebuild just about everything on the car for a lot less than the cost of C5.

I own 64 72 76 & 79 Corvettes ...in addition to a C5 ....
The older cars I honestly just plain LOVE... I have a great deal of emotional attachment to al of them ... My C5 on the other hand is just a "Corvette".. well I really like it BUT I really am not emotionally attached to it.. Great car
but it is not a car that I would never sell... (I sold a 95 6 sp to buy it)..
BUT..My brother passed away after a long illness a few weeks ago and his 2000 was willed to me so in a few weeks/months or so I"ll have it in my garage in addition to my 5 I already have... BUT I DO have an emotional
feelings for this car as my brother and I were extremely close more like best friends then brothers and we traveled or should I say "Vetted" together a heck of a lot.. .. I got a funny feeling the 200o will be in my garage until the day after I die together with my 64 72 76 & 79 .. the 98
as much as I like it most likely will be sold for a C6 or C7 or C8 ...
Costs, Insurance, appreciation, depreciation, do not even enter my mind
its all about emotions and feelings toward a car...

I just got a '98, and boy is it a blast to drive, just a totally awesome ride; nothing like my '71 LT-1. But.........my C3 gets the looks, and I have a greater sense of accomplishment in ownership because I can work on it myself. The C3 has a very visceral feel when I drive it, compared to the advanced technology of the C5. I thoroughly enjoy driving them both, but for completely different reasons.
The bottom line is, if I had to give one up, it would be the C5.

wesley, I have to agree with 79 the problems with your C-3 are not that bad and can be worked out. Expensive some of them but unless you are just need in the C-3 for transportation and have something else to drive you can take the repairs in small bits until you get the car the way you want. 50ths are great cars and don't get me wrong I love all vetts. Its just that the C-3s are very special. I just get goose bumps when I look down the side of mine the way the lines flow. I love my other car to its a 50th but it just doesn't have the character as the C-3. Choise is up to you. Take care.

westley, got cut off on my posting yesterday so this is a conti,. Just wanted to say that if I had to chose between my 75 or 03 on which one had to go. Eventhough I will miss it the 03 would be the one. Just my .02 worth. take care.
