Hello Y'all,
Just joined the C3 Registry. Current C4 owner & C4 Registry member. I'm contemplating the purchase of an 82. The car has a manual 4 speed. No evidence of any funny business or trans swap. The owner claims that this car was one of approx. 20 special order cars with a manual 4 speed. It's a one owner car & the owner claims she watched it roll off the trailer.
All my data & even the Corvette Museum folks say 82's had only 4 speed automatics. The seller is looking for the original build sheet, but in the meantime, I thought I'd ask the experts.
Now I really don't expect this gal to be lying to another Vette gal, but I'd sure like some confirmation.
Thanks,
Dragon

I've never heard of a manual '82 from the factory.

Vette(s): 1972 conv., sunfire yellow, blk interior, blk vinyl and convertible top. Off frame restoration with American Speed 383 stroker engine producing 500hp plus a 200hp NOS system. MSD ignition. Hooker super competition headers with chambered exhaust.
If she finds the build sheet and it came with a 4 speed, BUY IT. I've never seen a 82 with an original 4 speed.
If you don't get factory documentation or at least the buyers order from the dealer do not pay a premium for it.. I would buy it anyhow because it is rare no matter how you look at it..the owner can claim whatever she wants but proof is in the paper..if she is the original owner find out what dealer she bought it from and call them for Info..if the car is originally that way some one would remember the car..whether it be sales or service ..they may still have paperwork somewhere..dealers rarely throw stuff out..and be adamant about it..if you get a no on the first call, call back and ask for the person who has been there the longest..most dealers have people doing paperwork that have been there longer than dirt..would be a fun adventure no matter how you look at it. Keep us in the loop..I can always use some people at GM that I know to get info on it if I have to.

Its possible that the NCM(Corvette Museum) would have some document on it as the museum does have "MOST" archives of production at the Bowling Green plant... being an 82, it would have been produced at the Bowling Green plant... no doubt you'll need the vin # and i'd say there is some fee involved, but, if it is a "special" order, would be worth it...

I would first verify it is actually an '82 car. Does it have the Cross-Fire engine?
There were NO factory 1982 Corvettes with standard transmissions...special order or not, that I have ever heard of. There has never been any mention of any, either. It's entirely possible that the original dealer(or someone else) did a swap, but there would have been some computer programing to go along with it, since the original ECM would be looking for a lock-up signal/feedback from the lock-up solenoid in the trans, along with a corresponding drop in engine rpm upon lock-up command.
If there is in fact any factory documentation to prove this particular cars was equipped with a standard trans from Bowling Green, as an '82 model Corvette, you should snatch it up...

I never heard of an '82 4-speed car but fot $50 you can get a copy of the original invoice from:

If you have the VIN number and the car was built in Bowling Green (which it was), can't you get a facsimile of the original build sheet? I have a nice laminated copy for "The Admiral".
I agree, if tjhis is a legitimate car, buy it!
