OK I decided not to get the 74 454 so now I am looking at a 1970 with 95,000 on it and the guy is asking 12,500. Its a 350/300 hp t-top that looks pretty good. The only issue right now is the brakes they don't work. So the question is the car a buy. The interior is a 6 with power windows the paint job is a 20 footer but there has been work done on the passenger side front fender you can tell from underneath. My only concern today is he still going to sell it to me. There were two other people coming to look at the car, I was the first. He said he would sell it to me we will see.

Personally...I think $12,500 is too much for the car from the way you describe it. It's a base car that needs work and that piles up real fast. You also have to assume there are problems that can't be seen (yet).
If you want something to fix up, for the most part it costs as much to fix up a base car as it does a higher optioned and engined car.
There's lots of C3's out there. You don't have to jump on this one or any in particular. When you find the right one you'll know it.
If you decide to pass on this car, maybe the other two prospective buyers might as well. In that case, the asking price may come down to where it's worth it.
You can at least make a counter-offer, pointing out the problems that make it not worth the asking price.

If the rest of the mechanicals are in good shape, I would give the car
consideration. I don't think that you mentioned if the numbers match.
That price seems pretty reasonable to me. If I recall, the 1970 was a
low production number. I would certainly take a hard look at it,
particularly if you can fix the brakes, paint it and still be
under 20K. They are not going to get cheaper.

I'm kindain between Bruse N Scotts decision. They both have valid pointz. Alot depends on your choice. Doez this car really do it for you?
By the brakes not working tellz me you haven't driven it either. I would have a hard time shuckin out 12500 on somefin I couldn't putter down the road in for a test. (Unless she was somfin special.)
If ya just hang on yer car is gonna pop up. Spring iz here and its a seller market. Be patient and keep lookin. Yer car will find ya..... they alwayz do...

Hey thanks for the info. I decided to buy the car yes it does have issues but I thank in the long run it will work out. The tranny and engine seem tight the carburetor and starter I believe needs to be replace. The steering column is a little lose. The rear axles are new and the front bushings look good not to much with the back. I did see a little rust in the gas tank. I have not jack up the car to test the wheel bearings that will be done this weekend. I am not sure about electrical system again that will be this weekend. I have a two year plan for this car and besides what corvette out there does not need something done to it? I think 12500 is a good deal if not I am sure I could sale it for 16,000 right now and get it.
Congrat's on your purchase. Personally I think you done good. I bought my 71 5 years ago for 5,000. Mine is the L-48 motor. It sounds like pretty much the same condition as yours when I bought it. I've done a lot of work on it and some still needs to be done. If I sold it today I wouldn't ask less than $12,000. I think you made a great investment. Wish I could have run into it before you. Terry
I think you made a good decision. If it is all there and it just needs
some TLC you will have a car that you can really enjoy. And it is going
to be money well invested. Congratulations!
