Hey I need some advice. This guy is selling a 72 454 convertible for 10,000 but it looks trashed. He Say's the the engine runs but you can not drive do to no brakes and the drive train not hook up. On the surface this seems like a good project car to work on. Here's the question is 10,000 to much and what are some of the things should I be looking for when I see the car?

You say it's trashed. You have to think about all the money you will need to bring it back to where you want it. It's not cheap to work on these cars, you have to figure in the cost of fixing up the car, you might be able to buy one all fixed up for a lot less money. If you just want a project car to work on, offer him less money and if you end up walking away...oh well.
Good luck....just think of the big picture

I looked at a very nice 68 convertible today.I asked to guy what the story was on the car. He said, he bought it 20 years ago and it has been sitting in his heated garage ever since. When he got it home he went to lift it up the car almost broke in too. So be sure to check that frame before you do anything. Frank

Thats way to much for what you discribe. When you buy a project car what you really are buying is someones headaeck.I allways buy turnkey cars and jut mantain them, much cheaper in the long run.I'm not knocking the people that take on these type of cars as a matter of fact I admire them.We need these guys to put these cars back to there glory.Back to the car you are interested in.$10,000 is a lot for a project.First you are going to have to buy all the stuff that it needs just to get it driveable.Brakes on these cars are $$$ then the other stuff $$$.It probably needs paint there is another $5,000 at least for a decient one.Interior, another $1,500 or so depending on all it needs.Heck the birdcage might be rusted out and or the rear frame kick ups.If thats the case I'd run away as fast as I could.A 72 454 in mint condition will be less than what you will be putting into this car the way you discribe it.Some pics and some more history on the car will help us out a lot

No he didn,t zgator. I was there looking at a 55 chevy. This guy has more project cars then anyone I have ever seen. He had at least 25 cars from 1930's to 55 chevy's to 67and 69 camaro and two C5's. He even had a jag with a 350/400 hp this car was nice. I was there for 3 hours.

NEXT!! Broken%20Heart A trashed convertible is just that - trash.

Along with Corvettes that are trashed come a myriad of problems. Trust us. If it's basically a non running rolling sheck and if you can verify that the frame is solid (there are specific places to focus in on) - the car is worth no more that a few thousand dollars.

I'd move on unless you really know what you're looking for. Or get a knowledgeable C3 owner to look at it with you.

Good luck

My vote is NO like the others. There are plenty of deals around to be had. Take your time and buy what you really want. Its out there in your price range.

Is it an LS6? THAT would be the only reason to buy it.
I realize we're discussing a '72 here, but...is it really a '72? Lot of folks don't really know what year car they have.Adams' Apple2006-12-10 09:36:34
