First, verify the year of the car. If it is a '72, then it will not have the LS6 anyway. The LS6 was used in '71 only, for Corvettes. Check the VIN#...if it starts out with "194...", it is a 71. If it starts out "1Z67(or 37)", it is a 72. If it does turn out to be 71, then you will need to locate the engine suffix # on the stamp pad, and see if it is an LS6.(CPW or CPX)

Vette(s): 1974, 454 with 4 on the floor, matching numbers.
I purchased my 74/454 four years ago in very good original condition. Between what I paid for the car, and the close to $23,000 I put into it, I could have gotten a ground up restored job.
Don't get me wrong, as far as I'm concerned my car is in excellent mechanical condition, (It doesn't look bad either) I never expected to spend so much.
Keep looking, set your buying price limit, and take your time. You'll find something nice.

Vette(s): 1971 convertible,375 HP 350ci,Muncie 4-speed,Edelbrock aluminum heads and RPM air-gap manifold,HEI distrubiter - old school mechanical tach drive. LOUD side exhaust!

One of the best pieces of advice we can all give you is to buy the best car you can afford. Going cheap on the initial purchase will always cost you much more in the long run than if you had just spent more money up front. Without any details on the condition of the car, I feel comfortable guessing you'll drop at least another 10,000 to get it driveable and interior/exterior work. It's very tough to get your money back out. If you have a rare big block C3, you have a shot. But only if completely original. And that is even more expensive to redo (provided the big parts are there).

Guy's thanks for the good advice. I offered the guy 3,000 and to my surprise he took it. With that amount the wife did not take my balls or make me sell my 81.

It appears he was glad to get rid of it. Or maybe his wife was glad.
Hope the engine is good.
Sounds like you will be busy for a while.

Good deal, David! If nothing else, you should be able to recover the $$$ by selling parts, if the car is not repairable.
