Hey I am looking at a 74 conv with a non-matching numbers 454 in it. The car has 80,000 miles on it when the guy bought it it had 65,000 in 1980. He wants 14,000 the car does look good its paint color is yellow did they have yellow in 74? The interior is a 9. What do you guys think is it worth the the price? The car looks clean.

Look at the trim tag code and check one of the spec. books for the original color.
Was it always a CA car?
How many miles on the engine?
Does everything work?
How are the brakes, tranny, clutch, soft top, tires, etc?
Sounds like a reasonable price, if you don't have to do anything to it for a while.

Bright Yellow...code 956(but is probably listed on the trim tag as 56L)
What other options does the car have?
Convertibles will always bring more $$$ than coupes, as will big blocks, but...this one doesn't have the original engine, so the value is lower for that.

If you have driven it, looked it over real good and pleased so far then it's worth the money. Do you keep thinking about it??
If so, your probably fallin' in love with it..........ooopppss........"corvette fever." If you buy it you MUST drive it and enjoy it!

I will test drive it this sunday. The guys says that when he bought the car in 81 he had every thing done on it and that was 20,000 miles ago. So he has only driven it 20,000 pluse in 25 years? We will see.
In reality the NOM probably reduces the value by 15-20 percent. If
everything else checks out it's probably worth 12-15K. The bottom line
is if you like the car and intend to keep it, then go for it. The
non-original motor deal has never bothered me because I have them to
drive. I don't need a hanger queen.
Good Luck,

Price sounds reasonable if it doesn't need much and drives out fine. Try and find out as much as you can. Do you know if it was originally a BB car? If it wasn't there may be "other" things pop up if driven much. (radiator, tranny, rear end)
Don't get in a hurry... there are lotz of nice vettes for sale and definately one in your price range waiting for you. Ya just gotta do the research.

btw...'74s have a few "one year only" issues...such as the starter interlock/seatbelt logic module, and other silly stuff. Not really a problem if you don't care if it works, but if you do, then parts for some of this crap is really outrageous. The tail/brake lights are also '74 only...

OK I drove the car yesterday and it drove fine. The interior has a few things wrong I would say it is a 5 out of 10. Some of the vents are out of the dash the driver side door panel has pop out. The power windows do work the seats are OK no rips. The center console needs to be replace. The rag top is in good shape but the weather stripping needs to be replaced. The engine from a glance seems fine he did take out heating coil unit so he could change the back spark plug. My thoughts on the car are for the price of 14000.00 seems to be a bit high. So I will will wait for something else. This was my first older vette to drive and I have to say I like the look of the interior and feel of my 81. I will look at other older vettes and see if my out look changes.
