|QUOTE|glenns said: One last cheap thing you can do for protection. "They" sell battery disconnect "switches" that open up the hot ( or ground ) side of the battery by loosining a knob. If you continue to unthread the knob, it will come off in your fingers. Just put it in your pocket and when you are ready to drive again, just thread it back on. Of course we must be reasonable and realistic about this whole thing. If someone is really out looking for a car, they are gonna get it, period. You are not gonna stop a professional thief from getting your Vette. All they have to do is grab it with a tow truck and drive it into a trailer and scoot on down the highway. I think that is how they got my '74, at least that is what the police said.|/QUOTE|

I'm still looking into getting an alarm system with a beeper on it... and then running around with my gun pulled out |smile| Pshh, I think I've been watching too many movies. However, I have heard lots of good things about Lo-Jack... best of all, it was developed by the police here in Tampa, which is good for me! I wish they had that system they showed in RoboCop... where the theif gets in the car, and gets shocked to death. I'm sure there are some legal ramifications of having that, but that's my kind of justice!

Hi
I also have the battery disconnect switch and I always take the little knob along when I leave the car. This will at least delay a easy steal.
Also a steering wheel lock rod is a good thing. You just steer the wheels fully to one side and lock the steering wheel. This can be seen by anybody and might help changing this peoples decision.
A extra kill switch to the ignition or if so installed, electric fuel pump, might be a good extra security.
I think that alarm systems that only make noise, are useless. People don't even react on this and nobody will get involved disturbing a theft. Many tests have been done by TV teams and the outcome is hopeless.
Ragtops can not be secured anyway by locked doors, so you can just as well leave the doors unlocked. This might save the ragtop from being cut.
The best is not to leave the car alone for too long. ( or install a big , ugly, mean dog into it )
Our police says that a dog is the best alarm system for the house, so why not for the car ?
I guess, the best alram system is a good theft insurance.

Good luck. Gunther

Vette(s): 1978, l48, auto,
Sams club has a Bull Dog system for 30.00. 3 wire hook up disconnects the starter also. has disturbance settings. Talks and has a decent horn built in. Remote key ring also. Seems pretty good so far, I had to set the bump sensor down a little, to sensitive.

Carl 78 still stock
