Does anyone have positive or negative recommendations about air powered tools.
I've always had good luck buying used quality tools/instruments versus buying new lower quality items.
I realize SnapOn, Matco and professional tools are superior but how about Ingersoll Rand, Chicago Pheumatic, Craftsman, Kobalt, etc.

I have owned both Ingersoll and CP with no problems. Put oil in the tool once in a while and it should be fine. Now the stuff coming from China I don't know about.

I bought a new CP 1/2" impact driver in 1977 and it still works great
i have bought some stuff that came from china .. no brandname.... but i have checked several brandnames and it looks exact the same tool..only brandname missing...and with brandname more than 3 times the price i paid for :)

i have used most brands you have listed and it has been my experience
if they were maintained properly (oiling as suggested especially) that
they all preform great. buying used can be a tricky as you have to take
their word that they maintained them

Don't buy ANY Crap-On air tools! Can you say "JUNK"?
Stick with Ingersoll , and you'll never have a problem. That's ALL I've used for over 30 years. Every Crap-on air tool I ever bought took a dump within months. My IR stuff lasts for years, and I use my stuff all day, every day. Matco impacts are actually made by IR now, but they are built a little different.
You definitely want to keep it well oiled. Some people use Marvel Mystery Oil, but I feel that is too light for the job. Crap-on Air Motor oil is great, even tho their air tools suck.

Have used IR - great stuff. Have bought a couple of Kobalt impact wrenches and the "big" 500 ft-lb models seem to work and hold up pretty well.
I use 20W motor oil ...and plenty of it.
C3: 1979 Corvette Coupe, Auto, L-48, Red/Doeskin (my wife's fave);
C4s: 1986 C4 coupe (SCCA road race car), satin black, 4+3, Z51 package, L-98; & 1993 C4 coupe, white, 6-speed, LT-1.
IR and CP are a good bet. I have seen many Snap-On air tools die an early death. There other tools are excellent, but I also stay away from their air tools.
Too bad Rodak is no longer around. I bought my Rodak 3/8 air ratchet in 1975 used, and still use it today.

I use a 3/8 air ratchet and butterfly impact from Habor Freight. The last butterfly, which I use everyday working on mowers, etc., has lasted me for years. I occasionally remember to oil it.
Bought two more a couple of years ago with a coupon for $12.95 ea. One is still sitting on the shelf and the other I gave to my son for his birthday with a compressor. Won't speak for the rest of their tools, but I've had good luck with those two. Like art-corvette said, I've seen the exact same ones with a different name for more money.

I know the voices aren't real, but they have some pretty cool ideas...
