Don't know how much $$, but they work really well. Most of the stolen vehicles w/LoJack are recovered before the scum-bags have a chance to strip them. How much is YOUR baby(human OR automobile) worth?!

I know there are some law-enforcement people here, how 'bout it?

Gray,
Finally,,,,,,,,,a topic where I am sort of an expert. As an auto theft detective, I'm a big fan of LOJACK. It is basically a homing signal that a police car equipped with the tracking monitor can home in on.
LOJACK typically costs from $400 to $700 depending if it is installed in conjunction with an alarm. Most new car dearlers don't like to offer it to their customers, but they will have it installed upon customer request. The dealers don't want the buyer to be concerned about their car being stolen or they want to push the OnStar.
Truth is, OnStar & the likes can be defeated with a fuse removal, damaging the antenna, or parking it under a parking garage type of structure. There are no obvious signs that a car has LOJACK, & it has it's own battery (good for a couple of days) in case the main battery be disconnected.
My task force recovers 5 to 10 LOJACK equipped cars each month, and nearly all of them are recovered within 24 hours, most of those in under 12 hours. Further, LOJACK has helped us locate numerous chop shops and export ready vehicles. I just recovered a Nissan Quest last night within 3 hours of it being reported. Many of these cars are in very good shape as opposed to non-LOJACK cars that I find several days later.
The newer LOJACK systems have early warning detection that alerts the owner if the car is taken. Prior to this, the owner had to discover that his car was stolen, which afforded the thief extra time to damage/chop the car.
While my jurisdiction reaches accross city & county lines, most police departments will notify their neighbor should a "track" extend outside of their jurisdiction and the car can be located.
Good luck,
Anthony

Sorry getting back so late. For some unknown reason I unclicked the "Email Notify/Replies." Last year, State Farm told me the car was worth $25,000. If it's stolen, I would recover that amount, but I'ld rather not have that happen. After all, it's my "BABY." That would do me in!
So, you know some law-enforcement people in Irving??

TRY WWW.LOJACK.COM. THEY WILL COME TO YOUR HOME OR OFFICE FOR INSTALLATION. I HAVE LOJACK ON TWO OF MY CARS AND GET A DISCOUNT ON MY INSURANCE FOR HAVING IT.
I HAVE ALSO LISTENED TO MY SCANNER AND THE COPS FIGHT OVER THOSE CALLS. THEY HAVE A 91% RECOVERY RATE. OLDER CARS RUN CLOSER TO $1000.00 AND THERE ARE DIFFERENT OPTIONS AVAILABLE. MY OPINION, DEFINITELY WORTH IT. CHECK WITH YOUR POLICE DEPARTMENT TO SEE IF THEY ARE EQUIPPED TO LOCATE LOJACK EQUIPPED CARS.

I was talking to someone just yesterday and they said I would have to go to a Dealer to get one. I thought, "surely you can buy one some place else........I should of searched the Web!" Had to see what was happening on C3VR....came back to this topic, and "Bingo!" I have the web site now, I don't have to search!!!

Double thanks, Reid! Take care.

Gray,
Dealers usually do the LOJACK installs in new cars or used cars on their lot. LOJACK is pretty private about thier device. Their installers are usually certified by them.
As for a car that you already own, call 1-800-4-LOJACK and they will set up an installation appointment with you. Check the web site that VNCruiser posted above for more info.
I hope that you never have to use it.
