Quick Question..............

I just installed a new rear spring (stock 9-leaf) and a stock set of bolts that were the same length as the original.

Now the car is lifted up about 2+ inches & looks like I put air shocks on it. There is also a slight difference in the lift from one side to the other (left side is about 1" lower).

I have heard that longer spring bolts will allow for more adjustment. Should I order a set or let is sit for a little while & allow the spring to relax?

Thanks,

Anthony |headscratch|

Let the springs settle down a bit, try to drive it a bit if you can, and you should drop down to where you want it.

This is normal with new springs.

Ben,

I'm in New Jersey, bumpy roads & pot holes are not hard to find.

However,,,,,,,,,,,,

It is a little hard to find the center cap for the rally wheel when you hit one of these bumps & 40mph and it goes for a ride of it's own.|cussing|

I'll give it some time (& miles), but I'm probably going to order an 8" bolt to replace the stock 7" bolt anyway.

I'll leave the rest to the alignment shop, wheels are a bit off after the strut replacment.

Thanks,

Anthony

Norsky,

I guess that I could buy a couple bags of rock salt and put them back there.

This way I'll have some around when winter hits.|hammer|

Thanks,

Anthony

i use cat litter... just as good as salt for getting "un stuck" on the ice.. great for soaking up leaks in the garage (not that a corvette would EVER do that) and I cringe everytime I think of rock salt on the roads |biggrin|

I actually prefer the white pellets as opposed to true rock salt, it is easier on concrete & steps.

I don't know how much snow you get in Arkansas (if any), but if you've ever been hit with salt by a salt spreader truck, you would think that you are being sandblasted.

Rock salt is the reason why my 10 year old SUV has WAY more rust on the frame that my 36 year old vette and why the vette will be garaged over the winter.|frown|

Well, the salt & the fact that it will be in pieces.|hammer|

I'll put a hudred pounds back there to see what happens. Unfortunately, the weather is going from bad to worse in NJ.

I hope the longer bolts help too.

Stay warm,

Anthony

The worse place for salt damage in northern Ohio. We have a HUGE salt mine under Lake Erie. As a result, we get road salt very cheap, and it's used a lot.

Several years National Traffic and Safety Admin. did a study county by county across the USA to find the rustist cars. The worse place in the entire USA is Summit County Ohio, right where I call home. Some claim to fame huh?
